Talk Green to Me: Edible Insects, Our Food for the Future

November 28 @ 1:51 pm

Basic Info

Date:
November 28, 2024
Time:
1:51 pm

Enjoy some edible insects. Snack on Chocolate Chirp Cookies and Spicy Jamaican Jerk Crickets prepared by Little Herds.

Join us for a presentation by Little Herds, an Austin-based nonprofit that seeks to change the way the other 20 percent of the world views food and to help create a market for bug-eaters. Current farming practices are ravaging the environment, polluting the water and air, causing deforestation, overfishing, and contributing to the rise in infectious diseases. Cultivating insects as food addresses each of these problems. But in North American and in Europe, we have the hurdle of the taboo against them. 80% of the world views them as normal food; it's only nations in Europe, Canada, and the USA who balk at the idea. Little Herds is changing that perception, through children's education and public events, working with chefs, bakers, farmers, and businesses to make this a viable market, and promote healthy eating and sustainable farming

Talk Green to Me is a series of fun and informative discussions, presentations and documentaries at locations across town that explore topics such as:

community gardens | growing local | chickens | permaculture | organic gardening | compost | clean air | energy efficiency | sustainable community planning | small footprint living | tiny houses | edible insects | aquifer protection | gray water recycling | urban wildlife habitats | green landscaping
