Permablitz at the Funny Farm (SW Austin)

November 22 @ 8:46 am

** THANK YOU FOR LEAVING YOUR PETS AT HOME **

** DATES SUBJECT TO CHANGE IF INCLEMENT WEATHER

A permablitz is a community organized and supported event to spread permaculture design, practice, and implementation. At this permablitz we will be working primarily in zones 1 and 2 on this 5+ acre property.

The plan includes:

*  installing water catchment using gabions to slow and retain water in a small pond.

* installing perennial trees, plants, and crops for human, poultry, and bee forage as part of  a perennial food system.

* Designing to integrate poultry as the food garden’s working animals.

We will dig and plant berms and swales on contour with trees and plants, including native and cultivar trees, farmer’s trees, perennial vegetables, butterfly, bee, and beneficial insect gardens, and other food-producing plants suited for our climate. We will support our plantings with soil amendments, cover crops, mulch, and drip irrigation.  Come join us!

Breakfast and lunch will be provided both days and anyone is welcome to camp as long as they are responsible for their waste. Let’s not just leave no trace but leave a regenerative one! Even though we are providing lunch we welcome anyone to bring fresh vegetables and the like to share.

This is a joint event of the Austin and Central Texas Backyard Poultry Meetup and the Austin Permaculture Guild. Any donations you would like to make to Austin Permaculture Guild to "pay it forward" for future blitzes would be appreciated but are not required to participate! Donations cover costs such as cover crops and other supplies needed for these community events.

For those who use Facebook, we hope you'll join the discussion on this and other Permaculture projects on the Texas Permaculture Design Projects Facebook group
