[Energy Talk] Friday, Feb. 20th from 7pm to 8:15pm the
Environmental Science Institute at the University of Texas is hosting a free talk entitled,
"Power Trip: The Story of Energy." Professor Michael Webber will be providing a sweeping view of
energy's role in society over hundreds of years with
fun facts, myth busting, and an optimistic eye towards future technologies and solutions. This entertaining educational event will be held at
Welch Hall on UT's campus.

[Climate Meetup] Monday, Feb. 23rd from 5:30pm to 7:30pm the Imagine Austin Meetup Group is hosting a special meeting all about climate change at the Black Star Coop. The meetup group is designed to bring members of the public into the planning process and give their input on what they want the future of Austin to look like. At Monday's meeting, city staff and community members who have been working on the city's goal to achieve net-zero community-wide greenhouse gas emissions will be on hand to answer questions and discuss ways to meet this ambitious target. [Landscaping Workshop] Tuesday, Feb. 24th from 9am to 4pm the City of Austin is hosting a landscape professional training class on sustainable landscaping at City Hall. Students will learn about earth-wise landscaping and management practices from the experts, so that they can provide sustainable services for their own commercial and residential customers. The workshop is actually part of a longer series, so participants can sign up for a single class for $20 or the entire thing for $75. More info>>
[Design Class] Tuesday, Feb. 24th from 11am to 1pm
Austin Energy Green Building is hosting the next class in its
Green Bootsresidential green building education series.
Tuesday's class is entitled,
"Designing the Net Zero Energy Home," and will be held at the
HBA Phillips Center. The class is
$20 for HBA (Home Builders Association) members and
$25 for non-members.

[Round Table Discussion] Tuesday, Feb. 24th from 5:30pm to 7pm
Women in Solar Energy (WISE) is hosting a
multi-city round table discussion aimed at fostering a
better female workforce for clean energy. The discussion will take place in 14 different cities across the U.S., including Austin. Anyone looking to join the conversation should meet at
Sagra on East 11th Street or tune in for the live social media chat, using the hashtag
#NationWISE.

[Zero Waste Meeting]Wednesday, Feb. 25th from 7pm to 8:30pm the Austin Zero Waste Alliance is holding its monthly meeting with special guest speaker Maia Corbitt, executive director of the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR). Corbitt will be sharing details of the new Texas Recycling Data Initiative (TRDI) report, which for the first time, calculates exactly how much Texas recycles. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Willie Mae Kirk Library. More info>>
[Cooking Class]Thursday, Feb. 26th from 6pm to 8pm
the
Sustainable Food Center is hosting a
winter vegetables cooking class. From cleaning and chopping to steaming and caramelizing, SFC staff will show you how to make vegetables the stars of your plate. They'll use
locally grown produce from the SFC Teaching Garden and SFC Farmers’ Markets, and send you home with a
guide to local foods by local availability so you can plan your meals with the seasons.
