[Art Gallery] Friday, September 12th from 7pm to 9pm, Ecology Action of Texas is celebrating the grand opening of a new art gallery, constructed entirely out of cardboard. The gallery is made from the 1,000 pound bales of cardboard that Ecology Action collects, packages and then sends off to be recycled. Stop by their drop-off center at 9th and I-35 to see beautiful paintings hung on the cardboard walls. Light libations will be provided too. More info>>
[Energy Forum] The first in a series of candidate forums on energy issues will be held on Friday, September 12th from 6pm to 9pm. Candidates from Districts 6 and 10 will answer questions related to Austin Energy and its energy sources, affordability and governance. The forum is at the First Presbyterian Church and will be free and open to the public. More info>>
[Gardening Workshop]Saturday, September 13thfrom 10am to 12:30pm, theSustainable Food Center is hosting a class about raised bed construction class. During the workshop, participants will learn how to build different types of raised beds, as well as how to care for them once they are built. The topic of discussion will be setting goals and celebrating successes, as representatives fromFestival Beach Community Gardens and Cherry Creek Community Garden share their own personal experiences and insights. [Bike Advocacy] Monday, September 15th at 6:30pmBike Austin, is hosting the "I Bike I Walk I Vote" kickoff meeting at 1000 Brazos Street. The meeting will serve as a way to collaborate and come up with big ideas about launching a campaign that ensures that pro-bike candidates are elected to city council this Fall. More info>>
[Happy Hour] Tuesday, September 16th from5:30pm to 8:30pm is this month's Solar Austin Happy Hour. Pliny Fisk III from theCenter for Maximum Potential Building Systems will be there to give a talk entitled,"Toward a Maximum Potential Energy Future." He will give an overview of the many green projects he has worked on, including a sustainable village in China's coal region, the first Green Builder program in the U.S., and a proposal for hurricane ravaged areas like Galveston.More info>>

[Food Waste] Thursday, September 18th from11:30am to 1pm, the Zero Waste Network is hosting,"Emerging Solutions: Reducing Cost in the Food Service Industry." Join Mayor Leffigwell, an EPA rep, as well as community leaders and stakeholders working to reduce food waste. There will be aceremonial signing of a Project Charterto establish source reduction and food recovery in the food service industry as an important and effective zero waste strategy. [Water Talk] Thursday, September 18th from11:30am to 1pm, theColorado River Alliance is hosting a panel discussion entitled, "Wat'er the Possibilities?". The panel will feature representatives from the University of Texas El Paso, Lower Colorado River Authority, Canadian River Municipal Water Authority, and the Colorado River Municipal Water District. [Campaign Kickoff]Thursday, September 18th from 7pm to 8pm,Food & Water Watch is hosting the, "Healthy Communities Campaign Kickoff." The Healthy Communities campaign aims to get cities across the U.S. to pass resolutions telling Congress that the country needs legislation to stop the misuse of antibiotics on factory farms.
