We have a public health crisis.
-80% of antibiotics are used on factory farms, mostly to compensate for filthy, crowded conditions.
-This practice breeds bacteria resistant to those antibiotics, the same that we use to treat infections in people.
-The CDC estimates 2 million Americans a year contract infections from these bacteria, and 23,000 die.
We can change this. FDA and Congress have not done enough to deal with this urgent problem, so cities across the country are acting by passing resolutions telling Congress we need legislation now to save antibiotics and stop their misuse on factory farms. And we’re doing the same in Austin!
Join Food & Water Watch at the Kick-Off Meeting on Wednesday, September 17th at 7:00 PM to learn more about the campaign and how you can help. With enough people involved, we can commit Austin to a healthier food system and the protection of public health.
