Presentation description:

Design Outlaws are architects and designers who practice non-conventional thinking, display courageous vision, and create positive actions. The Design Outlaws project, an outgrowth of the Knossus Project, seeks to highlight these individuals, serve as a forum for ideas within the ecological design community, and foster brave and societally-beneficial ecological design. Design Outlaws has borne both a documentary, Ecological Design: Inventing the Future (1995), and book, Design Outlaws on the Ecological Frontier (2000), that feature interviews with Ian McHarg (Design with Nature), Stewart Brand (Whole Earth Catalog), and Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), among others.

The Knossus Project focuses on the development of a sustainable environment, renewable energy, and environments that are not only ecologically friendly, but are artistically vibrant. Chris will use Design Outlaws as a springboard to discuss important questions in the field of ecological design, such as the future of design education, other Knossus Project work, including City21 and Some Songs to the Stars, and relevant efforts outside Knossus, including Gaviotas and The Oberlin Project.
