AmeriCorps VISTA Conservation Position

  • Anywhere

The Texas Conservation Corps at American YouthWorks has two AmeriCorps VISTA opportunities we're excited to share. One is a placement with our TxCC program to help expand the number of youth and young adults served across the region. The other is a placement with one of our great partners, the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, to help design and grow their Spanish Colonial-Era Farm project. VISTA participants (Volunteers in Service to America) will build the organizational capacity of organizations that utilize public lands to alleviate long-term systemic poverty through work in environmental stewardship, economic opportunity, or healthy futures.Through this partnership with the US Department of Interior, VISTAs are placed with nonprofits that work on public lands and resources like National Parks and Wildlife Refuges to create and expand efforts to serve impoverished communities. VISTAs work nationwide on the systemic causes of poverty in underserved communities. VISTAs commit to one year of full-time service as they address specific issues that propel the cycle of poverty in the communities they serve. The Texas Conservation Corps (TxCC) VISTA will focus on expanding economic opportunities and environmental services in East Texas, the Gulf Coast and other regions through youth and young adult engagement on public lands. From their headquarters in Austin, Texas, TxCC program builds connections to public lands and the environment, and teaches job-skills and experience that will last a lifetime and prepare participants for future employment in conservation related fields. This VISTA position will build the capacity of the program to enable satellite services in these additional areas.
