Get ready for week two of The Ultimate Scavenger Hunt for the Sustainable Egg. Where can you find chickens and chicks, coops and feed, and garden supplies to grow food in your own backyard? What are successful zone 8 foods you can grow in the city? Continue your hunt for the sustainable egg at one of our favorite local chicken connections, and find everything you need to grow your own local Austin.
Callahan's General Store is hosting an in store photo scavenger hunt, from 8am to 6pm. Put your photo lenses to the task, and browse a springtime array of vegetable and herb seedlings and garden essentials you can add to your yard while you enjoy some barbecue out front. Enjoy the live music inside and begin your search for everything you need to supply your coop, build your gardens, fill them with food, and feed for you fowl and all of your pets!
Use the Scavenger Hunt poem below and photograph as many items as you can locate, throughout the store and warehouse.
Take a photo of…
A seedling in bloom
Of a tree you'd groom,
A rabbit or a hare,
A Funky hen and rooster pair.
Can you find the rooster, Willie Crow?
How about garden seeds you can sow?
Find the tanks, buckets and watering supplies,
So your plants and poultry never run dry.
Chicken towels, cups, and housewares
To make your chicken pot pie.
Photograph your favorite hat for the sun,
Clothes for when the rains run,
Find hardware and tools
to build gardens and coops.
Live chickens and chicks,
Roosters, goats that lick,
Fencing posts you can stick
Ready to go home lickety split!

RULES: Take at least 12 Callahan's style funky photos that show what you've found on your hunt for local poultry, eggs, coops, and food gardens. We'll share the best photos on facebook and instagram, with the top photo series winning a tour package from Callahan's to the 6th annual Funky Chicken Coop Tour.
Tour package includes a tour map, cap, and tour t-shirt, just in time for the tour on April 19th, 10am to 4pm at Sunshine Community Gardens, 4814 Sunshine Dr, Austin, TX 78756. Submit all photos by April 8, 2014 to hunt@austincooptour.org
