I have the audacity to believe that people everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits.
~ Martin Luther King, Jr., From remarks upon acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize
For MLK Day, 2014 Urban Roots will be holding two Mornings of Service on the farm in honor of Dr. King's legacy. Both mornings will be led by Urban Roots youth Interns, who will lead volunteers in an opening circle and orientation to the day. We will have a brief discussion on how Dr. King's work for an equitable society relates to our work at Urban Roots before youth Interns lead volunteers into the fields for the farm work for the day. Volunteers can expect to be outdoors the entire time doing physical work on the farm. These will be fun and educational days for all. We hope you'll join us!
Each of the MLK Service Days on the farm will include coffee on the farm for volunteers from 8:30-9:00am. Volunteers will have an opportunity to meet Urban Roots staff and youth Interns and socialize with each other before the work day begins. If you are interested in having coffee on the farm, please indicate that in the appropriate spot on your registration form.
