THAI RAIN JARS are beautiful, sculptural vessels made of ferro-cement and used for storing precious rainwater. Ferro-cement is a type of thin-walled construction composed of concrete over a steel armature, allowing for curvy and freeform shapes. Rain jars are way more beautiful than plastic barrels or even metal cisterns!
During this 2-day workshop instructor Dani Slabaugh will take us through all of the steps of construction, from the foundation and plaster mixing to topping off the jar with a mosquito-proof lid. We will be building a shapely 850 gallon cistern in the front yard of a recently-relocated recycled home in desperate need of capturing rainwater for both drainage and plant watering reasons.
