Williamson Creek Flood Clean-Up

November 29 @ 7:36 pm

Basic Info

Date:
November 29, 2024
Time:
7:36 pm

The Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Conservation District and the City of Sunset Valley are sponsoring a clean up of Williamson Creek this Saturday, November 16 from 9 a.m. until noon.

The recent floods left a lot of trash and debris along the creek as it cross over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone.  Volunteers will receive a t-shirt and lunch.

Please RSVP to Robin Gary at rhgary@bseacd.org if you want to volunteer or find out more details.

The District strives to schedule a cleanup every year on a local recharge creek to remove debris that would otherwise travel downhill, clog recharge features (like caves or sinkholes), and degrade water quality. Past events have included a section of Buda's Onion Creek along Cole Springs Road, a branch of Williamson Creek above a large sinkhole near the intersection of Brodie Lane and William Cannon, and a section of Williamson Creek near Sunset Valley.  Volunteers are requested from local schools, scouting troops, and neighborhood groups. Cleanup events are typical held on a Saturday morning in the fall or spring when the tempature is comfortable; volunteers are provided with bags, gloves, and lunch. Large items such as old tires, lumber, metal signs, fencing, and appliances are collected by adult volunteers and District staff for special pick up and disposal.

To learn more about the District's next cleanup, please call 512-282-8441. If you are interested in holding your own cleanup, please contact Keep Austin Beautiful, which can provide your group with trash bags, gloves, and other needed materials.  Visit  www.keepaustinbeautiful.org to learn more about Clean Sweep Austin Day and other cleanup efforts across the city.
