1House at a Time Build

We are excited to announce an upcoming 1house at a time work event with a generous sponsorship from Applied Materials and support from Meals on Wheels and More of Austin and Girl Scouts Troop 1590.  This project will be unique in that the Girl Scouts have been learning about how to improve a home and reduce its carbon footprint and they will be helping with the event.  We need about a dozen more adult volunteers for several of the projects.  The event is May 18th from 9 am to 1 pm in central Austin at the home of Ms. Torrez.  The list of improvements to be made are as follows:

-Wrap water heater with insulating blanket and seal hole to attic above water heater

-Install vegetable garden including soil augmentation and planting vegetables

-Install gutters and rainwater collection

-Replace kitchen counter top and fix leaking faucet

-Anchor bathroom counter down

-Insulate attic door

-Install insulating foam gaskets for light switches and electrical outlets
