Do you have backyard chickens and eggs? Its time to start saving those eggs! The Brazos Valley Poultry Club is pleased to announce the third annual Austin Bluebonnet Egg Show, which will be held June 1, 2013, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm, at Callahan’s General Store, 501 Bastrop Highway, Austin, Texas. We’ll also be launching the first annual Austin Bluebonnet Egg Drive, in partnership with Keep Austin Fed.
The Austin Bluebonnet Egg Show is an Open Breed Egg Show, featuring eggs from all breeds of chickens. Beautiful chickens are a joy to own, and its easy to produce high quality food in your backyard, even in the city. Urban backyard poultry owners and breeders will have their best eggs on exhibit, with juniors and adults competing head to head for top honors. The show features two main judging divisions, SHELL Classes and CONTENTS Classes. Classes are divided by color and size, with categories that anyone can enter, even if you just have one egg.
SHELL classes are judged based on uniformity of the eggs with regard to size, shape, color, texture, and cleanliness. CONTENTS classes are judged on interior qualities like yolk color, and features that indicate freshness. Pick your prettiest freshest eggs and see how they stand up to the rest! A Grand Champion and Reserve Champion will be awarded at the conclusion of the show, with prizes from Coyote Creek Farm, Callahan’s General Store, Randall Burkey, and Happy Hen Treats.
The show also includes a SILENT & LIVE AUCTION, LIVE PHOTO BOOTH, LIVE EGG JUDGING, RAFFLE, and a few vendors from around central Texas. Even if you don’t have chickens, you can still take home some unique handcrafted poultry items, bid on some fertile hatching eggs, or some rare breeding pairs and trios, or just some fun poultry stuff to add to your collection!
We will also launch our first annual Austin Bluebonnet Egg Drive, in partnership with Keep Austin Fed. The Egg Drive will run from June 1-Dec 31, 2013, with a goal of collecting and donating 1000 dozen eggs by the end of the year. A Keep Austin Fed donation booth will be set up at the front of the store on June 1st to kick off the drive. Drop off your surplus eggs and other nonperishable items to support the cause.
Thank you for your support. The Brazos Valley Poultry Club is a non-profit organization and welcomes your donations to promote exhibition poultry in Texas. See you at The Show!
