Please join us for this week’s “Shades of Green” program on KOOP 91.7 FM and streaming live at www.koop.org. Our topic will focus on issues surrounding Texas State Parks and air quality programs. Our guests include Cyrus Reed, Conservation Director of Texas Sierra Club, Brian Trusty with Audubon Texas and Ian Davis with the Texas League of Conservation Voters.

Cyrus has a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Texas at Austin, with a focus on water policy and the dispute over the Rio Grande water with Mexico. Prior to becoming conservation director, he served as Sierra Club’s lobbyist on energy and air quality issues during the 2005 and 2007 legislative sessions, and also directed the Texas Center for Policy Studies. He is presently working on energy issues and their impacts.

Brian Trusty serves as a Volunteer Commissioner for the Texas State Parks Advisory Committee made up of representatives from various outside organizations that advise the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Brian is also the Executive Director of Audubon Texas.

Ian Davis is working with the Texas League of Conservation Voters on the issue of restoring funding to Texas State Parks. He started his activist career at UT in organizing campus voter registration campaigns and moved on to campaigning with several nonprofits, such as Texas Freedom Network and Texas Sierra Club, Lone Star Chapter. He has managed numerous political campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels and led the “Love Austin” campaign that successfully passed six city bonds that will invest over $300 million in public infrastructure improvements. Ian grew up going to Texas state parks and his family has traditionally celebrated Thanksgiving at state parks. He’s already taken his 2-year old son camping, and he’s passionate about educating others on the need to fully fund our parks so that future generations can enjoy the great Texas outdoors.
