The City of Austin celebrated its 5 year anniversary this month of being a no-kill city. In February 2011 Austin became the first major urban city in Texas to reach no-kill status. Today, Austin is the largest no-kill city in the country.
Back in 2011, then city council member Laura Morrison said, “It’s taken the support of the entire community to become a No- Kill City, and it’s going to take the ongoing support from the community to keep Austin a No-Kill City. I will remain committed to this cause and will continue to support the City and the community as we become the most humane community for animal welfare, not only in Texas, but across the country.”
