SUMMARY:Climate Storytelling Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Sunrise Movement ATX and Our Climate Voices –\nStorytelling has the power to change hearts and minds in a way that facts and figures never can. The climate crisis is\, at its core\, a justice issue that is impacting each of our communities now. In order to truly grow and sustain the movement we need to create lasting and transformative change\, we must understand the deep and intimate ways that this disaster impacts and threatens each of our lives. \nOn September 14th 2019\, Our Climate Voices & Loam are coming together for an international day of climate storytelling where we will workshop\, cultivate\, and share our personal climate stories and learn how to activate them for meaningful climate action. The strongest grassroots movements succeed when we understand how our stories intersect with our struggles for freedom and liberation\, when we know intimately who and what we’re fighting for.

SUMMARY:Controversy and Conversation Film Screening: Wasted!

WASTED! exposes the criminality of food waste and how it’s directly contributing to climate change and shows how each of us can make small changes – all of them delicious – to solve one of the greatest problems of the 21st Century. \nCome and join the conversation with a moderated discussion after the film featuring speaker Lisa Barden\, Executive Director of Keep Austin Fed (https://keepaustinfed.org/).

SUMMARY:Controversy and Conversation Film Screening: Trashed
DESCRIPTION:From the Austin Public Library –\nTrashed\, an award-winning environmental documentary\, follows actor Jeremy Irons as he investigates the global scale and impact of humanity’s modern wasteful consumerism and pollution. The film\, written and directed by Candida Brady\, is a call for urgent action to resolve the issue of existing deposits and drastically reduce our consumption towards sustainable levels and zero waste\, but also demonstrates how this is already being achieved successfully in many communities around the world. \nThe screening will begin at 6:30PM\, to be followed by a brief community conversation. \nControversy & Conversation is a collaboration between the Difficult Dialogues Program and the Austin Public Library.

SUMMARY:"Above All Else" Documentary Screening
DESCRIPTION:The Austin Public Library is hosting a screening of “Above All Else” as part of their ongoing “Controversy & Conversation” program.  \nAbout the film: \n\n\nIn this dramatic\, firsthand account of activists on the front line of the climate fight\, one man risks it all to stop the tar sands of the Keystone XL oil pipeline from crossing his land. Shot in the forests\, pastures and living rooms of rural East Texas\, Above All Else follows David Daniel\, a retired stuntman and high-wire artist\, as he rallies neighbors and activists to join him in a final act of brinkmanship: a tree-top blockade of the controversial pipeline. What begins as a stand against corporate encroachments on one man’s land becomes a rallying cry for climate protesters nationwide. \n\n\n\n\n
