SUMMARY:Welcome to Gwichyaa Zhee Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:From Patagonia –\nJust north of the Arctic Circle\, the Gwich’in people are fighting to protect the lands and caribou from oil and gas development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge—a place that has provided them with a rich and bountiful existence since time immemorial. Indigenous groups in southeastern Utah are doing much the same\, seeking to defend their homeland and cultural heritage from energy and mining exploitation in Bears Ears National Monument. Join us for Welcome to Gwichyaa Zhee\, a short film that explores the commonalities and differences between the two\, and why the Gwich’in people need our support\, followed by a Q&A with the film’s narrator Len Necefer and filmmaker Greg Balkin. \nPrior to the film screening\, join us for a nonprofit meet and greet—we’ll have several environmental nonprofits from the community in the store sharing about the work that they do and ways to get involved. Snacks and refreshments are both on the house at this free event. \nNonprofit Meet & Greet: 5:30 PM\nFilm: 7 PM \n \nWelcome to Gwichyaa Zhee – Trailer from Wondercamp on Vimeo.

SUMMARY:No Dripping Sewage Kick Off: Keep Our Creeks Clean
DESCRIPTION:From the Save Barton Creek Association –\nJoin Save Barton Creek Association\, Wimberley Valley Watershed Association\, Clean Water Action\, and the local Patagonia store for a kick off event in our campaign against sewage pollution in Hill Country Creeks. \nDumping sewage effluent into creeks poses serious risks to our wells\, aquifers\, springs\, and streams—threatening human health\, property values\, and our Hill Country’s economic future. Alternatives such as land application\, beneficial reuse\, and newer decentralized technologies are approaches that can allow growth without threatening our water supply. \nCities have grown without direct discharge – for example\, the highland lakes communities of Lakeway and Marble Falls near Austin. \nThe proposed Dripping Springs permit to discharge nearly a million gallons of sewage effluent per day into Onion Creek would set a dangerous precedent. Other communities are likely to follow suit\, endangering the entire Edwards Aquifer. \nCome learn about and support the #NoDrippingSewage campaign to protect Hill Country water!
