SUMMARY:Craft Night: If It Came in a Bottle\, Everyone Would Be in Good Shape
DESCRIPTION:This is an indoor workshop. Masks and social distancing required. \nAbout Craft Night: \nFalling on the last Thursday of each month\, Craft Night is a long held tradition led by two of ACR’s dedicated core volunteers. Craft Night is not only an opportunity to celebrate the pure joy of making things\, but is also an excellent chance to explore the rich offerings of ACR’s wonderful bucket section. Your admission fee of $5 will entitle you to fill a bucket with items from our bucket section that can be used for that evening’s project (along with whatever else happens to tickle your fancy)! Pack it to the brim if you’d like to get every bit of your $5 worth! Your instructors will organize a project for each class and after walking you through the framework\, will turn you loose to gather items for your project so you can commence to crafting. We’ll provide tools and any speciality items you might need to complete the project.\n \nCraft night is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult and each person is required to purchase a ticket.\n \n  \nJuly Craft Night: If It Came in a Bottle\, Everyone Would Be in Good Shape \nParticipants will use large glass jars and other containers provided by ACR to make an assemblage for display in your home or garden. If you have special items you’d like to include and/or lighting you’d like to use\, bring them from home and we’ll help you combine them with goodies from our bucket section to make a dynamic three-dimensional piece.\n \nFor a sense of what’s possible\, take a look at this wonderful astronaut-themed jar made by instructor Virginia Van Hoogstraten featuring glow in the dark stars suspended with monofilament – the perfect bedside night light!

SUMMARY:Kid's Jewelry Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Using a variety of reuse materials and lots of creativity\, participants will have the opportunity to learn about jewelry-making. You’ll work with and try out different tools to make multiple pendants and at least one pair of earrings! There may even be time left at the end to make additional jewelry pieces.\n\n \nWe’ll provide materials to make a piece of jewelry out of metal\, to turn everyday objects into a piece of jewelry\, create a piece of jewelry inspired by another culture\, and to make a sparkly gift.\n\n \nAs an added bonus – once you’ve made the four different pieces of jewelry\, you will have finished the requirements to earn the Girl Scout Junior Jeweler badge!\n\n \nParticipants do not need to be scouts to participate.\n \nThis class is geared towards 4th and 5th graders. However\, kids 8-13 are invited and welcome to attend!\n\n \nAbout the instructor:\nKaren Miller is an engineer and artist who works primarily with reuse materials in collage\, assemblage and mosaic. She is also a long-time scout leader. Combining her love of working with scouts and reuse materials\, Karen has developed several arts and crafts workshops for young people that focus on safely learning how to use specific tools while reusing cool materials to create masterpieces.

SUMMARY:Craft Night: Blue Origin Postcard Project
DESCRIPTION:This is an indoor workshop. Masks and social distancing required.\n\n \nAbout Craft Night:\nFalling on the 4th Thursday of each month\, Craft Night is a long held tradition led by two of ACR’s dedicated core volunteers. Craft Night is not only an opportunity to celebrate the pure joy of making things\, but is also an excellent chance to explore the rich offerings of ACR’s wonderful bucket section. Your admission fee of $5 will entitle you to fill a bucket with items from our bucket section that can be used for that evening’s project (along with whatever else happens to tickle your fancy)! Pack it to the brim if you’d like to get every bit of your $5 worth! Your instructors will organize a project for each class and after walking you through the framework\, will turn you loose to gather items for your project so you can commence to crafting. We’ll provide tools and any specialty items you might need to complete the project.\n\n \nCraft night is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult and each person is required to purchase a ticket.\n\n \nMay’s Craft Night: Blue Origin Postcard Project\nParticipants will use paper craft and collaging techniques to make postcards that can be sent to Blue Origin’s student group where they will be flown to space on a rocket! When the cards touch back down in the west Texas desert\, Club for the Future will mark them with an official stamp recording their journey to space and then drop the cards in the mail to you and/or other addressees for a swell souvenir. We will use reclaimed and reused materials to create imaginative homes for the fairies in our gardens.

Clothing has already been collected from the community and will be available to everyone\, and local makers will be stationed to up-cycle and mend pieces to the liking of the customer as they are picked out. What an amazing four years it’s been! On our first Saturday\, we just hoped someone (anyone!) would find their way to our “not so easy to find” center. To our delight\, 33 of our supporters showed up to shop and celebrate with us. In those first months\, we were open to the public six hours a week and averaged a few hundred shoppers per month. Today\, we welcome our community 40 hours a week to shop\, plus an additional 20 hours to volunteer. If you have been in the center on a Wednesday or Saturday (or any day it seems)\, you know we have steadily outgrown our current location. We will soon bring our community a new\, bigger\, better center complete with expanded shopping and a dedicated workshop/community space. We will offer more programs like Art of Reuse\, Craft Nights\, Kids Art Workshops and Educator Professional Development. Look for more details on our move very soon! \nWe want to send a sincere THANK YOU to our entire community. We cannot do this without you!
