The State of Texas Water: Shades of Green Energy Radio Hosts Kevin Wagner, Associate Director of Texas Water Resources Institute

Many areas in Texas are experiencing one of the driest years on record.  Fires across the state have been a recent concern.  As of May 2nd LCRA reports that, “Stream flow in the upper basin, including the upper Colorado River, Llano River, Sandy Creek and Pedernales River remains very low due to the extreme to severe drought conditions.  … As a result, the inflows into the Highland Lakes are well below normal for this time of year.

Lake Travis is declining at 14.7 feet below its historic May average.  The total combined storage in the Highland Lakes two water storage reservoirs, Buchanan and Travis, is 70 percent of capacity.

At the same time the population in Texas has grown by over 20% since the census in 2000 according to Census Director Dr. Robert Groves.  Whilewater resources have declined during this dry period our population has markedly increased making it more important than ever to watch water consumption.

On Thursday we will host Kevin Wagner, Associate Director of the Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) to talk about the Texas Water Resources and what citizens can do to help conserve and make the best use of water in Texas.  We hope you’ll tune in to join us live on Shades of Green Energy Radio at 91.7 FM as we visit with Kevin Wagner about the state of Texas water.
