Not only can you access the tour from your smartphone\, but the six tour stops can also be enjoyed in any order!\n \n\nWe invite you to stroll along Austin’s oldest hike and bike trail with SCC on February 17th from 9-11am. We will visit three tour stops in the downtown section of the Trail\, where we will access the audio walking tour and have a listen. SUMMARY:Birding With The Travis Audubon Society
DESCRIPTION:Join Shoal Creek Conservancy and Travis Audubon Society as we enjoy a fall birding walk at Beverly Sheffield Northwest District Park. We will explore the main portion of the park around the pool and pond\, then move south toward Park Street and the open section of Shoal Creek at the end of the Park. We will look for year-round residents including Red-Shouldered and Cooper’s Hawks\, varied woodpecker species\, and the usual Hill country songbirds such as titmice\, chickadees\, and Northern Cardinals. Additionally\, we will hope to enjoy fall residents.\n \n\nBeginners as well as experienced birders are welcome. Not all portions of the planned route are easily accessible to those with mobility challenges\, but the main portion of the park and playground area are. We can make adjustments in our route if necessary. Restrooms are available at the playground. Although the trip will be relatively short both in duration and walking distance please bring water or snacks\, if you desire\, and wear appropriate footwear. We will have a small supply of loaner binoculars if you do not have your own.\n \n\nKeep track of the weather because you all know how quickly the weather can change in central Texas! This event will proceed in the event of very light rain or drizzle\, but will be canceled for heavy rain or lightning. Please check your email before leaving home on the morning of the walk if there is any questionable weather. \nWe will meet a few minutes before 7:00am by the historical marker in front of the pool. \nInterested? Guerrero\, P.E.\, spent 37.5 years with the City of Austin’s Watershed Protection Department in numerous roles.  He retired from WPD in July 2021 after serving as Interim Director for 9 months and Assistant Director for 9.5 years. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984 with a degree in Civil Engineering\, he joined the City of Austin Public Works Department’s Stormwater Management Division in January of 1985 and has served in various roles in flood mitigation\, erosion control\, and managing water quality stormwater control measures.  Early in his career\, he was directly involved in the construction of numerous field engineering projects in the Shoal Creek and Waller Creek watersheds.  He was also part of the charter team that created the Regional Stormwater Management Program (RSMP)\, which looks at alternate ways to comply with the water quantity detention requirements for developments.  He can be reached by email at jose.guerrero@austintexas.gov.
