SUMMARY:Up By the Roots: Dismantling White Supremacy
DESCRIPTION:This is a pay what you can series\, with a suggested price of $250 for the whole month of workshops. A portion of the profits will go to Grow Dat Youth Farm. \nEvent dates you get access to with one registration: \nJune 4\, 7:30 – 8:30 pm CST \nJune 11\, 7:30 – 8:30 pm CST \nJune 18\, 7:30 – 8:30 pm CST \nJune 25\, 7:30 – 8:30 pm CST \n\n\nWaking Giants is committed to the dismantling of white supremacy. We are a Queer\, women-led company with a diverse staff and team from different religious\, ethnic\, and social communities. It is through our lived experiences that we come to this work\, both through living and knowing the dangers of white supremacy and our continued awareness of our roles in protecting it. \nOur Up By The Roots workshop series is designed for white\, CIS people to work through their own relationship with white supremacy. This four part series will be led in tandem by Waking Giants Founders\, Sera Bonds and Martha Pincoffs\, who have over four decades of racial\, economic\, food\, and health justice organizing experience between them. \nThe series will focus on: \nDefining white supremacy \nReviewing the way that white supremacy has defined our systems that govern us in the US \nA tactical offering of action items that an individual can take to dismantle white supremacy \nA sharing of resources that we can be accessing to continue our self study \nThis workshop is for white\, CIS people who are ready to get to work. This is a safe place to make mistakes\, ask questions\, and be vulnerable. This is not a place to shame\, injure\, or intimidate. This is our work to do as white\, CIS people and we will go further in this work if we go together\, rather than alone. The safety\, security\, and liberty of people and communities of color depends on us doing this work. If you are ready to center them in your own consideration of your role in white supremacy then we are excited to work with you.

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: Advocacy for the Homeless Community
DESCRIPTION:On March 19\, 2020 Austin Bar Member\, Pooja Sethi\, after speaking to her friend and Austin EMS Association President\, Selena Xie\, realized that in the new world of Covid-19\, there was a gap in how some of our communities will access food. Concerned\, Pooja contacted five other women about helping those who are food insecure in Austin. They formed a group called “Quaranteam” — comprising of Pooja Sethi\, Kennon Wooten\, Margaret Chen Kercher\, Julie Ann Nitsch\, CJ Zhao\, and Ashley Cheng. \nThese women took the initiative in their own hands to step in place of the resources lost for the homeless population. The first mission started with Kennon Wooten making peanut butter sandwiches to feed those without access to food. The quaranteam escalated from there. They have worked hard with Austin EMS Association and have contacted restaurants to give meals\, reached out to community members to donate meals\, and have personally donated meals\, masks\, and tents to our unhoused populations. \nYou can RSVP here.
