DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) Central Texas Region –\nAbout this Event:\nJoin us for an informative presentation by Jorge Lopez on the successful and challenging efforts to build green in Mexico. A passive ventilated space\, designed within a building science scheme offers great opportunities and challenges to comply with both the required indoor air quality and a low energy use required to achieve a LEED v4 Platinum certification. The case study of an office space in Gudalajara\, Mexico\, one of first 10 spaces in North America certified as LEED® ID+C: Commercial Interiors\, v4\, Platinum level\, will be presented\, explaining the LEED v4 compliance and documentation. \nYou can get your ticket here. \nAbout the Presenter: \nJorge Lopez is a LEED Fellow since 2016 and the former Vice President for SUMe\, Mexico’s equivalent of USGBC. Jorge graduated from the Architectural Association in London\, receiving a MA degree in Housing and Urbanism. In 2014 he participated in the program Leadership in Sustainability at the UBC in Vancouver. He is currently a founding partner and Chairman of the Board of Eosis Inc\, an international and Texas-based consulting firm for Energy Modeling\, Passive Solar Design and Health and productivity enhancement in offices. \nJorge has performed the role of Integrated Design Coach in more than 75 LEED registered buildings\, mainly commercial but also multi family residential and institutional. He is active with the ongoing development of LEED\, volunteering with on the Social Equity working group advocating to increase Health and Dignity conditions for Construction Workers. He has also lectured and participated in forums in Canada\, U.S. and South America\, both Spanish and English. \nThis educational session is eligible for 1 CEU AIA/HSW/SD.\nAttendees will learn:\n\n\nhow the minimum indoor air quality performance for a LEED Platinum v4 certification was achieved in a passive ventilated building.\n\nhow to manage thermal gains by a building science scheme that includes a solar chimney and thermal mass to obtain the LEED points for the Optimize Energy performance credit. \nhow to engage users through LEED\, the B corp certification\, and a 10 year social program applied through LEED consultancy.\nhow to achieve the Advanced Energy Metering credit trough affordable yet effective technology.

DESCRIPTION:From the US Green Building Council (USGBC) Central Texas Region –\nJoin us as we discuss the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals\, a set of 17 goals developed by the United Nations grounded in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights\, the Millennium Declaration\, and the 2005 World Summit Outcome. Together we’ll scale this global agenda to the work we in the built environment do on a daily basis and learn how we can further our efforts to think globally and act locally to achieve this ambitious agenda.  \nAllison Wilson\, AIA\, LEED AP BD+C\, WELL AP is an architect and the Sustainability Director of Ayers Saint Gross\, a nationally recognized leader in high-performance design for colleges\, universities\, and cultural institutions. In this role she supports high-performance building and planning objectives across the firm\, providing analytical support to the design process\, integrating sustainability into campus master plans\, developing sustainability master plans\, and helping projects achieve third-party sustainability certifications. She is currently working on a net-zero building for Washington College on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and was the lead author of both the 2018 Texas A&M Sustainability Master Plan and the Sustainable DC Plan. Nonetheless\, the penetration of green certified housing is relatively low. Studies conducted in other markets have been helpful in demonstrating a positive premium in sales price associated with LEED homes\, but the applicability of such findings to Texas was unknown. The research team at the Real Estate Finance and Investment Center of the McCombs School of Business at University of Texas at Austin undertook this study to evaluate whether a similar impact could be observed in the Austin-Round Rock Metro Area of Texas. Tickets can be purchased here. \nSPEAKER \nJake Wegmann is on the faculty of the Community and Regional Planning program in the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on the intersection between housing affordability\, land use regulation\, and real estate development in hot market US metropolitan regions. A draft CodeNEXT code has been released\, and mapping by the consultant is currently ongoing. \nCodeNEXT is the new City of Austin initiative to revise the Land Development Code\, which determines how land can be used throughout the city – including what can be built\, where it can be built\, and how much can (and cannot) be built. \nCodeNEXT is the new City of Austin initiative to revise the Land Development Code\, which determines how land can be used throughout the city – including what can be built\, where it can be built\, and how much can (and cannot) be built. \nThe process is a collaboration between Austin’s residents\, business community\, and civic institutions to align our land use standards and regulations with what is important to the community. This initiative to revise the Land Development Code is a priority program out of Imagine Austin\, the city’s plan for the future adopted by City Council in 2012.

Leibowicz is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Program in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. His primary research interests are integrated assessment modeling\, technological change\, energy and climate policy analysis\, energy economics\, and innovation. In his work\, Dr. Leibowicz employs a broad array of methodologies that reflects the interdisciplinary nature of his research areas. These methodologies include optimization\, economic analysis\, game theory\, stochastic control\, and general equilibrium modeling. Dr. Leibowicz received both PhD and MS degrees in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University\, and earned a BA in Physics from Harvard University. \n\n\n\nDr. Zoltan Nagy\n\nZoltan Nagy is an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at the Universihty of Texas\, and he directs the Intelligent Environments Laboratory in the Department of Civil\, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CAEE). As a roboticist turned building engineer\, his research interests are in smart buildings and cities\, renewable energy systems\, control systems for zero emission building operation\, machine learning and artificial intelligence for the built environment\, complex fenestration systems and the influence of building occupants on energy performance.
