SUMMARY:Bird Walk At Lady Bird Lake
DESCRIPTION:Join The Trail Conservancy and Travis Audubon to find birds and observe their behavior on the new section of the Butler Trail\, the Holly Trailhead\, historically part of the decommissioned Holly Power Plant at Festival Beach. Recently planted native trees\, shrubs\, wildflowers\, and natural spring water dominate the landscape and provide excellent habitats for many different species of birds. As TTC restores this new section of the trail\, we will see a change of birds\, so you’ll want to come on this monthly walk.\n \n\nThis bird walk is ideal for beginners\, but all levels are welcome. We have binoculars to lend to anyone that doesn’t have a pair. Our walk will total 1-2 miles in about 3 hours\, making our way through the Holly Trail and adjacent to Lady Bird Lake to listen to and look for resident birds\, migrants\, and flyovers. The terrain is mostly flat (dissolved gravel trail and sidewalks) and there is ADA accessibility at the Holly Trail Overlook.  In winter\, we will take a stop at the Holly Trail overlook section of the trail a bit to watch the waterfowl.\n \n\nRegistration is required and is limited to 10 participants. A reminder email will be sent with pertinent details before the field trip. For questions\, contact Rachel at rachel.zierzow@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Lights Out Texas Webinar for Austin Businesses
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that most birds migrate at night? They often use the moon\, stars\, and sun to navigate. Light pollution can interfere with these signals and cause a serious problem for birds: they might be thrown off course or become so disoriented that they circle until they fall to exhaustion or collide with buildings. Fortunately\, you can help these birds safely complete their journey with just a flick of a switch.\n \n\nLearn about the Lights Out Texas initiative and the local efforts in Austin with Travis Audubon\, Austin’s oldest conservation organization. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom meeting the morning of March 23. Please register by March 22 at 5 PM CT.

SUMMARY:Purple Martin Party
DESCRIPTION:Travis Audubon will be hosting their annual Purple Martin Parties throughout the month of July. \n2016 Dates: July 8-9\, July 15-16\, July 22-23\, July 29-30\nFriday and Saturday nights\, 7:45 – 9:00 pm\, FREE \nPurple Martins have a major roosting site in Austin\, originally at the Highland Mall and last year at Capital Plaza. This year the Purple Martins are roosting at the Embassy Suites Hotel parking lot at 5901 N. I-35 Frontage Road. \nWatch a hurricane of birds as hundreds of thousands of Purple Martins “swirl” into their roosting site each evening. It’s better than the bats! \nBinoculars are optional. Lawn chairs\, cameras\, and hats or umbrellas are highly recommended!
