Expect transit oriented kids crafts\, a raffle\, interactive stations\, booths from community partners and project connect information. This free\, public event is designed to be inclusive\, high-energy and community oriented with space for families to relax\, play\, and learn more about transit options in Austin and Project Connect. \nThank you to our presenting sponsor\, Austin Rail Constructors and our raffle sponsor MWM Design Group for supporting this event! \nGetting there: \nBound tightly in the vibrant core of our growing city\, Pease Park is accessible by public transportation. SUMMARY:Postponed: Climate “Train”ing
DESCRIPTION:*Please note – This event has been postponed by the organizer. Stay tuned for the announcement of a date.* \n\n\n \nPlease join Transit Forward\, Environment Texas\, the City of Austin Office of Sustainability and numerous other partners for a Climate “Train”ing on Sept 14th. Interested Austinites can begin gathering at the Downtown Station at 11:15.\n\n  \nProfessor Dev Niyogi of the UT Jackson School of Geosciences will then present– at the platform and during the train ride– about what climate is\, how the weather extremes are affecting Central TX\, and what we can do to help mitigate it (including the use of public transit). The train departs the station at 11:34.\n\n  \nRiders will then exit at Crestview Station and proceed across the sidewalk to Black Star Coop\, where a community discussion about the topic will be moderated by City Sustainability Officer Zach Baumer\, Dr Niyogi\, and Transit Forward Executive Director Bill McCamley.  The conversation will conclude at 1pm. Council Member Ryan Alter will also be present to talk about the City’s Climate Bond Advisory Task Force.\n\n  \nParticipants are expected to pay for their own fares and lunch\, but 30 train passes for the event are being offered by Cap Metro on a first come\, first serve basis. For any questions about the event please email bill@transitforward.org.\n\n  \nDev Niyogi Bio :Dr. Niyogi is a Chair Professor at the University of Texas’ Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences\, Jackson School of Geosciences\, and the Maseeh Department of Civil\, Architectural and Environmental Engineering. He has coauthored over 300 peer-reviewed papers for international journals\,  coedited two book\, and has been extensively quoted in various media outlets and popular press. Dr. Niyogi is also part of the Organizing Committee of the Planet Texas 2050\, and the AI for Good Systems Smart City initiative.
