SUMMARY:Texas Statewide Active Transportation Plan Public Meeting
DESCRIPTION:As our state’s population and economy continue to grow\, TxDOT is developing the Statewide Active Transportation Plan (SATP) to help Texans get to where they want to go more effectively\, efficiently and safely while contributing to a next-generation transportation network. \nWith input from stakeholders and communities across the state\, this plan presents a coordinated\, unified vision for active transportation priorities through 2050 and beyond. The SATP includes human-powered modes like cycling\, walking\, the use of other mobility devices such as wheelchairs\, and smaller electric options such as e-scooters. \nTxDOT is seeking feedback on the proposed actions and steps for implementation of the SATP through a third round of outreach in summer 2025.

DESCRIPTION:The virtual public hearing will be posted on Thursday\, Feb. 9\, 2023\, at 9 a.m. through Tuesday\, March 7\, 2023\, at 11:59 p.m. Please note\, this is not a live event. The materials can be viewed at your convenience.\n \nTxDOT is providing an in-person hearing option (on Feb. 9th at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Comples) for individuals who would like to participate in person instead of online. In-person attendees will be able to review the same materials and presentation as the online public hearing.\n \nThe purpose of the public hearing is to provide stakeholders an opportunity to review and provide comments on the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and the Preferred Alternative.\n \nThe I-35 Capital Express Central project is approximately eight (8) miles in length and would include the removal of the existing I-35 decks\, lowering the roadway\, and adding two non-tolled high-occupancy vehicle managed lanes in each direction along I-35 from US 290 East to US 290 West/State Highway 71. The project will also reconstruct east-west cross-street bridges\, add pedestrian and bicycle paths\, improve transit accommodations and make additional safety and mobility improvements within the project limits.

SUMMARY:CapEx Voice I-35 Meeting
DESCRIPTION:As the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) goes through its federally mandated environmental review for its $4.9 billion redesign of I-35 through Central Austin\, TxDOT is holding a series of meetings to periodically receive feedback from the community throughout the process.\n \nThe next VOICE meeting for the Capital Express Central project will be held Tuesday\, April 12\, from 4-6 p.m. in person at Huston-Tillotson University’s Davage-Durden Student Union. This will be the first CapEx VOICE meeting since TxDOT made significant design changes in January to Alternative 3 in response to feedback from the community and the City of Austin.\n \nThe April 12 meeting will focus on options for widened bridges over the highway as well as bicycle and pedestrian bridges and intersection options at Airport Boulevard and Riverside Drive. You can RSVP for the meeting here.\n \nThe project to rebuild the highway through an 8-mile stretch of Central Austin is set to begin construction around late 2024 or early 2025. Another official public comment period will be open when TxDOT presents its locally preferred alternative in its Draft Environmental Impact Statement\, expected in 2022/2023.
