DESCRIPTION:Hosted by – Public Citizen\, Common Cause Texas\, the Texas Civil Rights Project\, TexPIRG\, League of Women Voters\, and MOVE Texas\nIt’s time to rally for voter protections! The month marks the sixth anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Shelby County vs. Holder\, which gutted voter protections in the Voting Rights Act. The ruling has led to discriminatory voting laws across the country – including voter ID laws and gerrymandering. \nVoting rights advocates are pushing back with a National Day of Action to demand that Congress restore voting rights protections by passing the Voting Rights Advancement Act (HR-4). \nPlease join us at City Hall to rally for voter rights!

SUMMARY:Town Hall on the Democracy Voucher Program
DESCRIPTION:From Public Citizen Texas – \nJoin us for a town hall discussion with Seattle Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda on the Democracy Voucher program. \nThe Democracy Voucher program was designed to encourage a more diverse pool of candidates for elected office and ensure everyone has the opportunity to have his or her voice heard\, not just the wealthy and political elite. \nAdopted by Seattle in 2015 and put into practice in 2017\, the voucher program has resulted in a marked change in the composition of who is contributing to city campaigns in Seattle. The voucher program has made the universe of donors to political campaigns more diverse and more balanced with regard to geography\, gender and economic status. \nIn addition\, the program has served to empower candidates who may have been superbly qualified in every way except having easy access to wealthy donors – like Councilwoman Mosqueda. \nThe City of Austin is currently reviewing a Democracy Voucher program proposal and it could be at item on the November ballot.
