SUMMARY:An IRRESISTIBLE Evening for Democracy
DESCRIPTION:Our democracy is what allows us to have our way of life with the freedoms we enjoy. But democracy is fragile: it can disappear right before our eyes if we aren’t careful. In order to protect our democracy\, everyday citizens must be engaged and step up to defend it.\n \n\nOn March 27\, 2024\, LWVAA\, along with Leagues around the country\, will host An IRRESISTIBLE Evening for Democracy. Join us at the Alamo South Lamar for a night of film\, food\, and fun\, featuring a screening of Irresistible\, a 2020 political comedy that “takes on the big-money corruptions of American politics” (Variety). Enjoy the full “Alamo Experience” as we showcase the work of the League of Women Voters! Proceeds from this event — sponsorships\, ticket sales\, and individual donations — will fuel the work we do to ensure that voters in Austin and Travis County have the information they need to participate fully in our democracy.\n \n\nBuy a ticket\, make a donation\, or become a sponsor and know that your attendance and generosity will register and inform more voters right here in the Austin area. Won’t you join us in our mission to Empower Voters and Defend Democracy?

DESCRIPTION:Our democracy is what allows us to have our way of life with the freedoms we enjoy. But democracy is fragile. It can disappear before our very eyes if we aren’t careful. In order to protect our democracy\, everyday citizens must be engaged and step up to defend it.\n\n \n\nThe League of Women Voters Austin Area is made up of volunteers right here in Central Texas who recognize that our democracy must be protected. We provide voter registration in local high schools and throughout the community. We create the Voters Guide\, the go-to publication for nonpartisan information during each election. We create and present nonpartisan civics education to all potential voters in Central Texas. And we do this all for free- but we can’t do it without your support.\n\n \n\nJoin us on April 6\, 2022 at Defending Democracy Dinner. When you arrive\, you’ll be able to browse our silent auction and raffle with drinks available from the cash bar. During the three-course dinner\, you’ll hear from our keynote speaker\, Amy Stansbury of the Austin Common\, as well as our President\, Mari Robinson. You’ll learn about what the League has been doing to protect our democracy and our plans for 2022 and beyond. You’ll hear why this work is so important and how the League makes a critical difference. You’ll meet our award winners\, both League members and members of the community\, who are upholding the values of the League. And you’ll know that every dollar raised at this event is going to Defend Democracy.\n\n \n\nSo what are you waiting for? SUMMARY:First Vote! Presenter Training
DESCRIPTION:First Vote! is a non-partisan program that registers students in high school who are eligible and educates them about voting. It focuses on the importance of voting\, reasons people give about not voting and how to overcome them\, and the steps to becoming a voter.\n \nFirst Vote! is holding a training for presenters. Presenters will give students a 30-minute to 1-hr voter education presentation to high school students virtually and in-person this semester\, and then help students register to vote.
