SUMMARY:360 Tree Decoration Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:From Keep Austin Beautiful –\nJoin Keep Austin Beautiful staff for a morning of service along 360! While we love the holiday spirit\, inevitably the decorations have to come down to keep our city clean and our trees healthy. Removing the left-over decorations is a priority for Keep Austin Beautiful due to the concern for the surrounding environment. The festive accessories pose a potential threat to wildlife that may mistake the ornaments for food and for the nearby Bull Creek as the items come loose and wash into the creek. \nWe will be cleaning up the tree decorations along 360.  Most of the decorations are between Bee Cave Rd and 183 on Highway 360.  When visiting a location\, we ask volunteers to pull as far off of the shoulder as possible (in many cases there is an area you can park next to the shoulder on the grass) and use your hazard lights.  Be wary of cyclists when you pull off the highway.  Some of the decorations are located on trees that are near the edge of a cliff.  Please use extreme caution if you decide to remove these decorations. \nVolunteers should come prepared to work outside on uneven terrain. Please be sure to dress for the weather and wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty or wet. Bring a reusable water bottle and stay hydrated. As Clean Sweep has grown over the years we have noted that is has become more than just a cleanup day. Volunteers are planting gardens\, restoring riparian habitats\, removing graffiti\, and more. To recognize all the work volunteers are doing on this day we have decided to formally rename Clean Sweep to Keep Austin Beautiful Day. \nWe hope you will join us on Saturday\, April 14th for the newly launched day of community service for the first time as Keep Austin Beautiful Day.  \nIn previous years\, the cleanup and project day has resulted in over 26 tons of trash removed by 4\,000 plus volunteers who contribute 8\,700 combined service hours. Keeping with tradition\, the network of projects will followed by a not-to-be-missed volunteer party featuring free t-shirts\, lunch\, live music\, children’s environmental activities\, a unique object contest\, door prizes\, and more! \nYou can sign up to volunteer here.

SUMMARY:Loop 360 Tree Decoration Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:From Keep Austin Beautiful –\nOne of the most popular holiday traditions in Austin is decorating the juniper (mountain cedar) trees that line the shoulders of Loop 360. This festive activity brings much cheer to the roadside\, but many decorations stay up long after the holidays are over. To restore the trees to their natural beauty\, Keep Austin Beautiful is organizing its sixth annual Highway 360 Cleanup on Saturday\, January 6\, 2018\, from 9 to 11 am. \nWhile we love the holiday spirit\, removing leftover decorations is a priority for Keep Austin Beautiful due to environmental concerns. Festive accessories pose a threat to local watersheds when they come loose and wash into nearby creeks\, and wildlife may mistake ornaments for food. Decorations can also damage trees if they are not taken off after the holidays. If your family decorates a juniper tree this year\, Keep Austin Beautiful is asking you to do your part to keep the city clean by removing adornments in a timely manner. \n“It’s not about what is on the tree—it is what has fallen off or what remains\,” stated Rodney Ahart\, Executive Director of Keep Austin Beautiful. “We as Austinites have an obligation to restore the environment to its natural state\, avoiding any harmful effects to wildlife or the nearby Bull Creek.” \nVolunteers will meet at 9 am at 7700 North Capital of Texas Highway across from the Canyon Springs Apartments at Bull Creek to pick up supplies. Volunteers will drive to sites along Highway 360 to clean up decorations\, and are asked to exercise caution along the roadway. Following the cleanup\, volunteers will drop off supplies and collected decorations at the assembly point and enjoy treats at an appreciation party. \nYou can RSVP here.

SUMMARY:SXSW Cleanup Project
DESCRIPTION:From Austin Resource Recovery and Keep Austin Beautiful –\nLast year\, SXSW generated almost 350\,000 pounds of trash and recyclable material. The 10-day festival officially began on March 11th and runs through March 20\, 2016. In an effort to maintain and return the city back to its normal landscape\, we are seeking volunteers to help with litter maintenance and poster/flyer removal. Austin Resource Recovery and the Operations team will be leading this cleanup project and working towards our zero waste goal. All cleanup materials\, snacks and water will be provided. Please come prepared to work outside and get dirty. This site is open to volunteers age 12 and up.
