Through this exhibition\, both artists explore the stories of Austin. Hear about the artwork and the program from the artists themselves. \nAbout the DASA Artist in Residency Program: \nThe DASA Artist Residency Program offers a unique opportunity for artists across various disciplines to immerse themselves in a supportive and inspiring environment. The program provides the perfect space to focus on your creative practice\, develop new work and engage with a diverse community of artists and cultural enthusiasts. \nResidents receive a dedicated studio space in downtown Austin\, digital\, print and social media promotion through our partnership with Tribeza\, access to resources and facilities at DASA Residency spaces\, opportunities for collaboration and networking\, professional development and mentorship over one year and exposure to new ideas\, cultures and experiences. \nAbout OG Johnny: \nAs a native Austinite\, I draw inspiration from the vibrant energy of my city and the rugged beauty of the Southwest. Working with acrylic and spray paint\, I create custom murals and paintings that blend bold colors with dynamic compositions. I’m best known for my unique approach to painting cacti—capturing their resilience and character in a style that’s distinctly my own. Through my work\, I aim to transform spaces and spark a connection between art and the environment. \nAbout Ki: \nI am affectionately known as Ki. I am a stylist\, tailor and designer. I feel pride especially serving those who identify as gender diverse\, non-binary\, gender-fluid\, gender-nonconforming and/or LGBTQ+. My portfolio includes everything from custom designed wedding garb\, to sourcing and upcycling vintage threads and tailoring ready-to-wear clothing to fit the unique needs and bodies of queer folks. I have the privilege of prioritizing folks who have historically been underserved in this area. I pride myself on helping other queer and gender non-conforming folks feel comfortable\, confident and unapologetic in their clothing and subsequently their bodies. First I had to learn to do this for myself and that’s how SwankKi was born. I am inspired by pioneers like Dapper Dan. I envision a future where SwankKi Tailor & Threads follows in his footsteps as a southern fashion hub that employs and prioritizes queer folks\, folks of color and creatives alike.

SUMMARY:DASA Deep Dive
DESCRIPTION:Have questions about the DASA program\, application process\, or want to partner with us? We are hosting a virtual “office hours” style DASA Deep Dive to answer common questions with a brief presentation followed by a Q&A session. \nBring your questions about becoming a community activator\, submitting a space to activate\, or partnering with us. \nLearn more about these programs and more on our DASA webpage. \nAbout DASA: \nThe Downtown Austin’s Space Activation program (DASA) is our call to action for Austinites to take an active role in making downtown the place they want it to be. Through DASA\, we’re transforming empty\, underutilized spaces and are turning them into a platform for social impact\, community connectivity\, and inclusive prosperity. Through supporting diverse artists\, business owners\, and more\, downtown sustains its vibrancy and cultivates economic\, social\, and cultural benefits.  \nA lack of affordable space poses barriers to many Austinites showcasing their talents downtown. Vacant storefronts and spaces downtown lead to fewer folks coming downtown to play\, shop and explore. DASA bridges this gap by connecting artists\, artisans\, musicians\, entrepreneurs\, and creatives of all kinds with donated space and resources to bring their ideas to life\, encouraging diversity and dynamism in our city.

SUMMARY:Issues & Eggs: Innovative Approaches – Mental Health Diversion
DESCRIPTION:Join Downtown Austin Alliance with guest speakers from Travis Country for a conversation on improving outcomes through mental health diversion solutions. You can RSVP here.\n \n\nLearn more about the launch of Travis County’s Mental Health Diversion Pilot and planning efforts toward the creation of a permanent Mental Health Diversion Center. The pilot will leverage existing behavioral health services\, contracts and facilities to expand and bolster resources. Our panel of experts has been deeply involved in planning efforts\, having conducted site visits in Miami\, Nashville\, Houston and Tuscon and more to understand diversion center best practices.\n \n\nInnovative approaches in the pilot are expected to improve public safety outcomes and create a healthier community. A traditional approach to criminal justice can lead to poor public safety outcomes as individuals are cycled repeatedly through the criminal justice system without addressing their needs. Travis County Mental Health Diversion is designed to break the cycle of the criminal justice system and will be integral to helping people with mental health diagnoses receive proper care and services.\n \nSpeakers Include: \n\nAndy Brown\, Judge\, Travis County Commissioners Court\nAnn Howard\, Travis County Commissioner\nSally Hernandez\, Travis County Sheriff\n\nModerated by: \n\nTamara Needles – Presiding Judge of the 427th District Court\, Chair of the Behavioral Health Criminal Justice Advisory Committee\n\nAbout Issues & Eggs \n\nThe Downtown Austin Alliance’s Issues & Eggs series is back and better than ever. We’re bringing experts to the breakfast table to provide perspective on the challenges downtown faces. Join us as we unscramble complex issues one community conversation at a time.
