What problems\, if any\, have arisen and what has been done to address those problems? What changes to the process will be made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic? \nAs always\, audience questions will be welcomed. The meeting will be moderated by Mike Ignatowski. \nThis meeting will happen via Zoom videoconference. SUMMARY:Scooters\, Bag Bans\, etc.: What's the Right Amount of Regulation?
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Common Ground for Texans –\nIf you’ve had any thoughts about the new electric scooters on Austin’s streets\, you’ll want to attend our next meeting on Saturday\, March 2! \nShould an e-scooter company be able to start operating in a city without the cooperation of local government? When should local regulators step in\, and how much regulation is the right amount? A broad question that applies to more than just scooters: Think of the ban on plastic bags at grocery stores\, or (even bigger) the land development code. \nJoin us Saturday\, March 2\, from 2:00 to 4:00\, for a panel discussion\, moderated by Mike Ignatowski\, with two city council members on opposite sides of the scooter question: \n* Allison Alter (district 10)\n* Jimmy Flannigan (district 6) \nWhen: Saturday\, March 2\, 2019\, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm\nWhere: Old Quarry Branch Library\, 7051 Village Center Dr.\, Austin\, TX 78731

SUMMARY:Town Hall on the Democracy Voucher Program
DESCRIPTION:From Public Citizen Texas – \nJoin us for a town hall discussion with Seattle Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda on the Democracy Voucher program. \nThe Democracy Voucher program was designed to encourage a more diverse pool of candidates for elected office and ensure everyone has the opportunity to have his or her voice heard\, not just the wealthy and political elite. \nAdopted by Seattle in 2015 and put into practice in 2017\, the voucher program has resulted in a marked change in the composition of who is contributing to city campaigns in Seattle. The voucher program has made the universe of donors to political campaigns more diverse and more balanced with regard to geography\, gender and economic status. \nIn addition\, the program has served to empower candidates who may have been superbly qualified in every way except having easy access to wealthy donors – like Councilwoman Mosqueda. \nThe City of Austin is currently reviewing a Democracy Voucher program proposal and it could be at item on the November ballot.
