SUMMARY:Coffee & Conversation: Exploring Climate Courage
DESCRIPTION:Join presenter Ed George as he explores Andreas Karelas’ new book Climate Courage. The book tells stories of individuals and groups who refuse to be discouraged by all the ominous climate change news\, and who have gotten busy and taken action. Brave office holders support planet-friendly laws. Community activists raise up support for solar workforce job training. A network of churches commits to switch to 100% wind power. Climate Courage is a mosaic of these and other heartening tales. There is much that’s already going on in the world. You will see ideas for action; maybe they will spark ideas of your own.\n\n \nEdward V. George is retired from teaching and research in classical languages at Texas Tech University. He has been a Citizens’ Climate Lobby volunteer for four years. He and his wife Cecilia tend a xeriscaped yard and harvest rainwater with a 1\,000-gallon tank. They belong to Covenant Presbyterian Church\, Lubbock\, a PCUSA certified Earth Care Congregation.\n\n \nEVENT FORMAT:\nOur presenter will speak for 15 to 20 minutes\, then we’ll have an informal Q&A session and discussion for the remainder of the event. This event is held online on Zoom.\n\n \nHOW TO CONNECT:\nPlease RSVP on Eventbrite to receive the Zoom access information:\nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/…/coffee-conversation…\n\n \nSome of our past Coffee and Conversation topics have included:\n– Carbon Footprints for Business\n– Regenerative Ranching in Texas\n– Latino & Spanish-Speaking Climate Outreach\n– Austin’s REACH Carbon Pricing Plan\n– Psychology of Climate Change\n– Carbon taxes in other countries\n– Environmental racism\n– Climate legislation in Texas\n– History of Texas weather\n– Renewable energy\n– Infrastructure and climate mitigation\n– The business case for sustainability\n– How to handle difficult conversations about climate change\n\n \nTo stay updated about future events\, join us at cclusa.org/join

SUMMARY:The Push for a Price on Carbon: CCL's June 2021 Virtual Conference
DESCRIPTION:Find the full agenda and FAQ’s on our website. \nCalling on Congress \n\nAn economy-wide carbon price is the single most powerful tool we have to reduce America’s carbon pollution to net zero by 2050. We’re asking Congress to enact that powerful tool this year. You’ll get updates on what’s happening in Washington\, D.C.\, from keynote speaker Adele Morris\, economist at the Brookings Institution\, and CCL’s government affairs team.\n \nIt Takes a Coalition \n\nKeynote speakers Jasmine Sanders\, Executive Director of Our Climate\, and Jerry Taylor\, President of Niskanen Center\, will share what their organizations are doing this year in support of climate solutions. At our breakout sessions\, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from faith groups\, local leaders\, businesses and more about their perspectives on the push for a price on carbon.\n \nGrassroots Action \n\nGrassroots action is at the heart of the push for a price on carbon. Citizens’ Climate grassroots supporters span the United States and its diverse climates and interests. Together\, we’ll double down on the push for a price. You’ll be trained on actions you can take in your community\, with the media\, and with your member of Congress.\n \n\n**We will be using a conference platform called Airmeet. For the best experience\, we strongly suggest you join the conference on a laptop or desktop computer\, using Chrome (version 79 or later) as your internet browser. Failure to do this will lead to video and sound issues\, and limited access to the interactive features. You can download the latest version of Chrome here.**

SUMMARY:Electric Vehicles & the Future of Texas: An Hour With Smitty Smith\, TxETRA
DESCRIPTION:TxETRA’s Tom “Smitty” Smith speaks on the current status of electric vehicles\, their future in Texas\, and necessary legislation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (TxETRA) is promoting the Electric Transportation Act in the Texas legislature. The Act will support the building of EV charging stations across Texas\, institute policies to make Texas the destination for EV manufacturing\, increase the use of zero emission vehicles\, and in several other ways develop a framework for the electrification of transportation in Texas. \nTom “Smitty” Smith is a long-time advocate for clean air and sustainable systems. He is currently the executive Director of TxETRA\, an Alliance of vehicle manufacturers\, dealers\, utilities\, environmentalists and consumer groups\, that are working together to develop and promote the policies needed to electrify the Texas transportation system. \nCitizens’ Climate Lobby works for national legislation that will reduce carbon dioxide emissions\, specifically the policy known as carbon fee and dividend. Organizations like TxETRA that advocate for policies and technologies that lead to reduced carbon emissions are natural allies. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:United We Move: CCL's Plan For Climate Action In 2021
DESCRIPTION:The 2020 elections will shape our political strategy \nThe will to solve climate change is growing. 2021 could present historic opportunities for climate solutions\, and CCL is preparing to move forward. At this conference\, we’ll take a look at the road ahead. John Wood and Hahrie Han will discuss what the 2020 Presidential and Congressional election results mean for climate policy in 2021. And CCL’s Dr. Danny Richter will share key elements of CCL’s 2021 strategy based on the election. \nWe’ll stay true to our roots \nSome things will remain the same no matter what the election outcomes are. We’ll continue our nonpartisan\, grassroots approach. We’ll still build the relationships that turn enemies into allies\, and allies into activists. At the conference\, you’ll have an opportunity to hear about the work we do to reach out to\, include and support all different types of people to reach their potential as climate advocates. \nAnd build on our past successes   \nAs we discuss the road ahead\,  it’s important for us to review what’s worked so far\, and to build on those successes. 2020 has been a difficult year\, but there have been bright spots as we transformed our advocacy from in-person to digital. CCLers will share highlights and best practices from their work this year. \nAdd a Sunday Seminar \nEach of these virtual seminars lasts two to three hours (starting at 1pm ET on Dec. 6)\, taking our attendees deeper into the material than a standard conference breakout. When you register for the Dec. 5th conference\, you can choose to RSVP for a Sunday Seminar as well\, please select the “RSVP Sunday December 6th” ticket in addition to your Dec. 5th ticket. You can choose from one of four seminar topics: \n\nBridging the Divide on Climate Solutions presented by Braver Angels (2 hours) While most Americans understand climate change is real\, they disagree on solutions. Some seek solutions that maintain the status quo\, while others believe that the problem requires major systemic changes. This session teaches communication skills to allow people to talk more constructively with each other about solutions to climate change.\nNew Research on Carbon Pricing Benefits and CCL’s June Analysis (3 hours) Broken into 3 sections (45 mins each\, 15 min break in between)\, we’ll first cover the updated Household Impact Study; second we’ll review two papers\, one by Noah Kaufman which discusses the necessary carbon price rates to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 and another paper by Dr. Drew Shindell which speaks to the health benefits of a climate policy like H.R. 763; and finally we’ll go over the June 2020 Lobby Day notes analysis.\nA lens into race and climate (2 hours) [limited capacity] How do White and BIPOC individuals move beyond diversity to talk about race issues at a climate organization? Gain tools and practices for counteracting racial bias and microaggressions to help create a more compassionate and inclusive organization. This session will be led by Natalie Orozco\, CCL Board Member & Strategic Consultant\, and Karina Ramirez\, CCL Diversity and Inclusion Director.\n(This session is full) Envisioning Climate Success and Your Next Steps (2 hours) Peterson Toscano\, host of Citizens’ Climate Radio\, will help you appreciate your unique life experiences and connect them to your next steps into the future. Through a mind-expanding time-travel exercise\, you will free up your imagination and consider new solutions.

Depolarizing Within: A Better Way to Prepare for Climate Discussions\, presented by Braver Angels [2.5 hours] \n***We’re sorry\, this session is full due to the overwhelming response to it. Please select a different breakout. We are thrilled by the response\, and intend to offer more sessions on this topic in the future. If you would like to be notified when those have been organized please fill out this form. Thanks!*** \nA surprising aspect of today’s epidemic of toxic polarization between climate advocates and climate skeptics is that much is driven by how we talk with like-minded people about those on the other side. Too often we stereotype\, dismiss\, or ridicule our fellow citizens who differ from us in their perspectives on climate change. How we talk among ourselves about them fuels fires that threaten the progress of climate solutions. This workshop will help you become more aware of your inner polarizer\, help you learn to depolarize yourself and teach you skills for intervening in social conversations with like-minded people when those conversations veer into contempt and ridicule for people who hold other views. Handout needed for this session\, please print in advance\, and have a writing utensil and extra paper to write on. \n**Zoom log in information will be emailed to you prior to the event if you sign up for this session** \nZoom Video Conferencing Tips \nTo improve audio/video quality\, close all applications and other browser windows. \nRead this Zoom doc to see how to turn on closed captions and adjust the font size. \nIf you have problems connecting\, please contact Zoom’s 24/7 support at 888-799-9666. \nAbout Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) \nCCL empowers everyday people to work with their community and their members of Congress on climate change solutions. Our supporters cover the political spectrum and work in more than 450 local chapters. Together\, we’re building support for a national bipartisan solution to climate change.
