The first step is to attend an orientation (offered quarterly.) If you are unable to attend any currently scheduled orientations\, sign up to be notified when more are scheduled. \nOnce you have attended an orientation\, you’re ready to participate in your community! ARR staff will reach out regularly to support you with resources\, information and opportunities.

Bring them to a Fix-It Clinic and learn hands-on repair skills with help from our expert volunteers—free of charge! \nGet your free ticket here. \nNew policy: We will no longer work on computers\, cell phones\, or tablets at the Fix-It Clinic. These projects often require extensive troubleshooting and take up a lot of our volunteers’ time. Instead\, we encourage you to subscribe to the Fix-It Austin newsletter to receive announcements of upcoming workshops focused on electronics repair\, consult the Austin Reuse Directory to find a professional repair shop\, and/or look for a repair guide on the IFixIt website. \nHow it works: Bring up to two items (excluding computers\, cellphones\, and tablets) and work with our coaches to learn how to fix them. Tools will be provided\, but feel free to bring your own. If you know your item needs a replacement part\, please bring it with you. While we can’t guarantee every item will be repaired\, you’ll learn how it works and what you may need to fix it. Note that our electronics/miscellaneous category is the most popular and sometimes there is a wait to work with a volunteer. \nDrop-off option: Can’t attend in person? Drop off your item at the Conley-Guerrero Senior Activity Center (808 Nile St.)\, September 5-11. We’ll try to fix it\, and you can pick it up September 15-20. Items not claimed by September 20 will be donated. Space is limited\, and a waiver is required.

Circular economy businesses reimagine how they design and offer goods and services and maximize the useful life of goods and their parts. \nDuring the event on August 26\, five business owners will pitch their circular economy business ideas to judges for a chance to win $10\,000 in prize money and three early-stage entrepreneurs will compete for $2\,000. \n2025 Competitors Include:\nCocarbon converts agricultural waste into sustainable activated carbon for water filtration. Their carbon-negative\, solar-powered process eliminates expensive water transport\, reduces waterborne diseases\, and creates local jobs. \nCRAFT is a public studio that promotes sustainability through a shared use model for arts and crafts. Their model reduces waste\, prevents unnecessary consumption\, and fosters an inclusive\, community-driven approach to making. \nHeartening is a community-driven initiative dedicated to creating a sustainable culture of giving and reuse. They are powered by volunteers who care about giving clothing back to the community freely or extremely cheaply. \nSave the Good Stuff is committed to the preservation and reuse of vulnerable vintage and historic building materials. They aim to maintain the integrity of Austin’s built environment. \nWanderlust Wine Co.  is the world’s largest wine-on-tap winery. They are on a mission to change the world through wine by utilizing sustainable\, recyclable and reusable packaging and practices. \nPlus\, three additional businesses that will qualify via the Circular Accelerator program on August 13th.

Our skilled volunteers will guide you through repairing your cherished toys\, from teddy bears with torn seams to non-functioning remote-controlled cars. Our bike repair coaches can even help you assemble or repair a child’s bike just in time for the holidays. \n\nTo ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to work with our volunteer coaches\, attendees are kindly asked to bring no more than two items to the toy hospital.\nWhile we can’t guarantee your toy will be fixed\, coaches will guide you through how the item works and what you may need for repair.\nAttendees are expected to actively participate and stay with their items during the repair process.\n\nYou can get your free ticket here.
