DESCRIPTION:2021 MLK Celebration Truth\, Racial Healing & Transformation Virtual Circles \nThe Truth\, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) Circle works to “bring about transformational and sustainable change\, and to address the historic and contemporary effects of racism.” \nJoin us in healing our communities by dismantling the false hierarchy of human value. \nFor more information about Racial Healing Circles\, please read our FAQ below or visit the Kellogg Foundation’s national website for Truth\, Racial Healing & Transformation. \nLearn more about Austin Health Commons at www.austinhealthcommons.org. \nLocation & Logistical Information:\nRacial Healing Circles will be held virtually. Based upon your registration\, you will be notified and receive your Zoom link by Friday\, January 15\, 2021 or Monday \, January18\, 2021. \nFAQs\nWhat is Truth\, Racial Healing & Transformation? \nTruth\, Racial Healing & Transformation is a format developed by Dr. Gail Christopher.  In the Racial Healing Circle\, you will meet new people\, listen deeply\, share your truths\, and give affirming responses. You can learn more at healourcommunities.org. \nWhat will we do in the Circle? \nOur TRHT Facilitators guide participants through introductory exercises which lead up to a deeper sharing in a safe space. Participants are invited to share their truths and heart stories to develop a deeper understanding of one another. You are paired with another participant to share your story. During the group\, you are invited to share the identified human experience of emotions\, impact and joy that resonated with you and affirm each other’s experiences. These shared connections lead to a rich discussion and dialogue. \nIs focusing on our shared humanity the same as being color blind? \nNo. In discussions about race\, the term color-blind means that someone “doesn’t see color” or believes that people of color are no longer affected by race and racism. To say this is to “create a society that denies negative racial experiences\, rejects cultural heritage\, and invalidates unique perspectives.” Austin Health Commons believes that to focus on our shared humanity means that we are able to both celebrate and acknowledge our differences and acknowledge that beneath it all\, we are also all human and worthy of love\, respect\, and basic human rights. \nHow does the TRHT Circle heal? \nHumans are innately wired for connection which reduces stress and creates bonding. Thus\, when we leave the circle\, we actually leave in a healing experience. \nDo I have to share a story? \nSharing is always by invitation. If you do not feel ready to share your story with the group\, we will absolutely honor that. We believe each person has a valuable story that the group participants can learn from. Sharing your story allows you to receive the affirming comments from the group and fully experience the healing that comes thereafter.
