Fave stuff, #4

Greetings! I’ve figured out how to post videos!! Here are two key selections, plus 5 links to some VERY important eco-info.

1. Conservatism
As an “MK” (Minister’s Kid), I’ve been especially interested in our nation’s Creation Care movement. Arguably, the current leaders of this movement in the Evangelical context are Matthew & Nancy Sleeth (see video).

Here in Austin we’re lucky enough to have numerous faith-based, and interfaith movements sprouting up – more about that soon…

2. DSIRE
Are you looking to green up your energy use? DSIRE (the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency) can hook you up with everything from what Austin Energy offers to details about Federal incentives. An easy way to invest in cleaner, more sustainable energy.

3. 10 Tips for an Eco Romance
I’m just saying… volunterism and organic chocolate can really brighten your day… Use the EcoNetwork to find local volunteering opportunities, and visit this link to connect to more ideas:

4. Permaculture teaches techniques for a sustainable lifestyle
Speaking of inspiring, I took classes with Jenny, Selwyn, and Dick a few years ago via The Austin Permaculture Guild. I honestly think this was one of the smartest things I’ve ever done; really changed my life in a positive way. Visit http://www.permie.us to learn about local permaculture goings-on, I highly recommend.

5. Profiles in Green Building: Austin, TX
You may not know that the world’s first green building program began … here, in Austin! Definitely a cause for local pride. Thanks to the visionaries who helped change the entire world, in this manner. http://www.green4th.com/2009/07/profiles-in-green-building-austin-texas.html

6. Limits of Climate Modeling
I find this endlessly fascinating and especially relevant to eco-activists everywhere: Climate Modeling is not a definitive science. I think all of it needs A LOT more attention. Here’s a link to a nice article. http://www.green4th.com/2009/07/limits-of-climate-modeling.html

7. Urban Farming, like a revolution
Local leaders like The Sustainable Food Center & Urban Roots are working to plant seeds for a bountiful, locally-sustainable food system. Austin-area urban farming is on the rise, as well. check out this video from Atlanta —
