SUMMARY:Tree Care at Graham Elementary
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer with TreeFolks for a Tree Care work day at Graham Elementary! \nTreeFolks planted 50 native trees at this site in North Austin in March 2023 as part of a project to increase urban canopy equity. Austin has experienced a 25% reduction in tree canopy cover over the past 30 years due to rapid urban growth\, which is disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities in the eastern crescent of the city. Tree mulching is needed to help retain moisture around roots\, prevent weed growth\, and protect the trees from extreme temperatures. \nTreeFolks will provide all necessary materials\, including gloves\, tools\, water\, and snacks. Please bring a water bottle\, dress for working outdoors\, and take breaks when necessary! RSVP here. \nIf you have any questions or concerns\, please get in touch with Gillian: volunteer@treefolks.org\, (512) 761-8738 cell

SUMMARY:Great Hills Neighborhood Park: Volunteer With Council Member Duchen
DESCRIPTION:My office is teaming up with Austin Parks Foundation to reduce wildfire risk at Great Hills Neighborhood Park by removing “dead-and-down” brush from the 2023 ice storm. We’d love to have your help. \nWHEN: Saturday May 31\, 9am – 12pm \nWHERE: Great Hills Neighborhood Park\, Floral Park Trailhead \nSIGN UP: Register here\nJoin your neighbors and me\, your D10 Council Member\, in supporting our neighborhood park. We’ll help cut and move dry brush to the trailhead for haul-away. Dead brush creates wildfire risk\, and this project will serve as a pilot for low-cost fire-mitigation solutions. \nYour volunteer efforts will help protect the surrounding neighborhood\, especially during our hot summer. We need about 25 volunteers to make a big impact\, so bring a friend! \nPlease wear long sleeves and pants to protect from scratches\, and bring a reusable water bottle.
