SUMMARY:Sierra Club Monthly Program: The Zilker REWILDING Plan
DESCRIPTION:Our monthly Austin Sierra Club meeting will be online via Zoom. \nWe’ll start off with Announcements on current events… Tonite’s main program is the Zilker REWILDING Plan\, with Robin Rather & Elizabeth McGreevy.\n \nParts of ZiIker Park are being loved to death\, while other parts are being under-utilized due to a lack of shade. A 2020-2021 city-wide survey revealed 82% of Zilker Park survey respondents supported expanding natural areas in the park. There is concern about the negative impacts of large events and commercialization\, and about water quality. Join us to hear about the goals and visions of the rewilding plan.\n \nElizabeth McGreevy is a natural resources planner\, author\, and public speaker. She holds an undergraduate degree in biology from Randolph Macon Woman’s College\, a master’s of landscape architecture from Texas A&M where she focused on environmental planning and ecology\, and is a certified permaculture planner. She was born in Houston but moved to Austin more than 20 years ago to work on ecology-based development\, management\, and restoration plans. Her work focuses on ecological site analyses\, site plans\, rewilding\, and increasing rainwater infiltration for projects across the Hill Country.\n \nRobin Rather is an environmental activist and sustainability advocate specializing in socioeconomic research and strategy for a range of business\, non-profit and governmental clients at her Austin company\, Collective Strength\, where she is the CEO. She has served as lead consultant on projects involving renewable energy strategies\, water conservation\, the future of healthcare\, non-point source pollution\, community values\, citizens’ definitions of a healthy economy\, and corporate trends. Robin has a B.A. cum laude in Sociology from Tufts University. She is a former board chair of the Save Our Springs Alliance (SOSA)\, and co-founder of Liveable City\, Hill Country Conservancy and Envision Central Texas.\n \nThe URL to click on and join the meeting will be displayed after you RSVP. If you are new to Zoom\, tutorials are available online – example https://www.youtube.com/embed/hIkCmbvAHQQ . Using your camera and microphone is optional for the meeting.
