SUMMARY:Craft Night September: DIY Kaleidoscope
DESCRIPTION:Last month\, ACR shift lead\, Ericka\, created an incredible tutorial for their spotlight and we absolutely loved the idea so much\, we had to turn it into a craft night! Using primarily bucket materials\, you’ll learn to create your very own crazy kaleidoscope. There will be plenty of sparkle to go around!\n\n \nThis is an indoor workshop. Masks and social distancing required.\n \n\nAbout Craft Night:\nFalling on the 4th Thursday of each month\, Craft Night is a long held tradition led by two of ACR’s dedicated core volunteers. Craft Night is not only an opportunity to celebrate the pure joy of making things\, but is also an excellent chance to explore the rich offerings of ACR’s wonderful bucket section. Your admission fee of $5 will entitle you to fill a bucket with items from our bucket section that can be used for that evening’s project (along with whatever else happens to tickle your fancy)! Pack it to the brim if you’d like to get every bit of your $5 worth! Your instructors will organize a project for each class and after walking you through the framework\, will turn you loose to gather items for your project so you can commence to crafting. We’ll provide tools and any specialty items you might need to complete the project.\nCraft night is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult and each person is required to purchase a ticket.

SUMMARY:Coffee & Conversation: Exploring Climate Courage
DESCRIPTION:Join presenter Ed George as he explores Andreas Karelas’ new book Climate Courage. The book tells stories of individuals and groups who refuse to be discouraged by all the ominous climate change news\, and who have gotten busy and taken action. Brave office holders support planet-friendly laws. Community activists raise up support for solar workforce job training. A network of churches commits to switch to 100% wind power. Climate Courage is a mosaic of these and other heartening tales. There is much that’s already going on in the world. You will see ideas for action; maybe they will spark ideas of your own.\n\n \nEdward V. George is retired from teaching and research in classical languages at Texas Tech University. He has been a Citizens’ Climate Lobby volunteer for four years. He and his wife Cecilia tend a xeriscaped yard and harvest rainwater with a 1\,000-gallon tank. They belong to Covenant Presbyterian Church\, Lubbock\, a PCUSA certified Earth Care Congregation.\n\n \nEVENT FORMAT:\nOur presenter will speak for 15 to 20 minutes\, then we’ll have an informal Q&A session and discussion for the remainder of the event. This event is held online on Zoom.\n\n \nHOW TO CONNECT:\nPlease RSVP on Eventbrite to receive the Zoom access information:\nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/…/coffee-conversation…\n\n \nSome of our past Coffee and Conversation topics have included:\n– Carbon Footprints for Business\n– Regenerative Ranching in Texas\n– Latino & Spanish-Speaking Climate Outreach\n– Austin’s REACH Carbon Pricing Plan\n– Psychology of Climate Change\n– Carbon taxes in other countries\n– Environmental racism\n– Climate legislation in Texas\n– History of Texas weather\n– Renewable energy\n– Infrastructure and climate mitigation\n– The business case for sustainability\n– How to handle difficult conversations about climate change\n\n \nTo stay updated about future events\, join us at cclusa.org/join
