What an amazing three years it’s been! On our first Saturday\, we just hoped someone (anyone!) would find their way to our “not so easy to find” center. To our delight\, 33 of our supporters showed up to shop and celebrate with us. In those first months\, we were open to the public six hours a week and averaged a few hundred shoppers per month. \nToday\, we welcome our community 40 hours a week to shop\, plus an additional 20 hours to volunteer. If you have been in the center on a Wednesday or Saturday (or any day it seems)\, you know we have steadily outgrown our current location. We will soon bring our community a new\, bigger\, better center complete with expanded shopping and a dedicated workshop/community space. We will offer more programs like Art of Reuse\, Craft Nights\, Kids Art Workshops and Educator Professional Development. Look for more details on our move very soon! \nWe want to send a sincere THANK YOU to our entire community. We cannot do this without you!

SUMMARY:Postcards For Progress Party
DESCRIPTION:From the Austin Sierra Club –\nLet’s write some postcards for our favorite candidates and party.\nThere is a campaign for this election to send out lots of handwritten postcards to those who may not vote or haven’t voted in recent elections. This is a great idea that could reach a lot of voters in Texas. It could be much more effective than phone banking (I can write 50 cards an hour and only reach a few folks per hour on the phone on a good day). \nThe important midterm election is around the corner and the results will be vital for environmental causes. A very effective way to contact voters is to participate in the postcard campaign being done by various candidates. Blank postcards will be supplied for this meetup. \nIf you cannot join us at this meetup\, then you can write postcards from the comfort of your home. All you have to do is go to one of the locations and check out some blank cards\, bring them home and hand write a message in your own words\, and return the cards to where you got them. \nThe adresses are: \nDemocratic Party HQ 6929 Airport Blvd\, Unit 127 Austin\, TX 78752 Near N. Lamar and Airport\nRepublican Party HQ 9420 Research Blvd. Echelon III\, #200-2G\, Austin\, TX 78759 \nThe deadline is September 30 \nA sample message could be:\nDear neighbor;\nI urge you to vote for ______ this election for better healthcare\, social security\, environmental protection\, public education\, equal pay\, living wages\, freedom of speech and the Press. etc

SUMMARY:Solar Austin Happy Hour: Valuing Solar And Distributed Energy
DESCRIPTION:From Solar Austin –\n\nThe explosive growth of renewable energy throughout the US\, including here in Austin\, continues thanks to technological and policy innovations such as the value of solar tariff incentive used here in Austin. Nevertheless\, funding and implementing wide-scale storage of renewable energy remains a challenge\, particularly for distributed energy resources (DER)\, such as rooftop solar. \nWe are excited to announce that Karl Rábago\, Executive Director of the Pace Energy and Climate Center (PECC)\, will discuss these and related renewable energy innovations as our September Happy Hour speaker. He will be joining us via Skype\, but don’t worry – the rest of your Solar Austin friends will be there in person. Mr. Rábago will delve into the development of value of solar tariffs in different markets as well as its potential role in the adoption of DER storage. As the former Vice President of Distributed Energy Services at Austin Energy who led the way in creating the first value of solar tariff\, Mr. Rábago will be a particularly insightful speaker on this topic. \nMr. Rábago is the Executive Director of the PECC\, at the Pace Law School in White Plains\, New York. The PECC mission is to protect the earth’s environment through solutions that transform the ways that society supplies and consumes energy. Mr. Rábago has some 25 years experience in energy and climate policy markets. He serves as Chair of the Board of the Center for Resource Solutions\, a San Francisco-based non-governmental organization that works to advance voluntary clean energy markets. He also sits on the Board of the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC). Mr. Rábago also is co-director and principal investigator for the Northeast Solar Energy Market Coalition\, a US DOE SunShot Initiative Solar Market Pathways project. \nWe hope you will join us for this discussion on cutting edge innovations in solar and energy storage policy with a true industry thought-leader.

SUMMARY:Fix-It Clinic
DESCRIPTION:From Austin Resource Recovery –\nIs there a fallen hem in your favorite shirt? Did your blender suddenly stop working? Is your child’s toy a little worse for the wear? Bring these items and more to the Fix-It Clinic where volunteer coaches with repair know-how will be available to teach you how to fix your item. \nFix-It Clinics are all about do-it-together hands-on disassembly\, troubleshooting and repair knowledge. Fix-It Clinic attendees are expected to be active participants in trying to fix their items with guidance from our coaches. Attendees should plan to stay with their items. Dropping off of items for repair will not be permitted. \nAt this Fix-It Clinic\, you can learn how to fix almost anything! Including: \n\nClothing\nJewelry\nAccessories\nToys\nSmall Appliances\nElectronics\n\nAll ages are welcome\, but children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nChoose your ticket based on the item(s) you plan to bring and when you’ll arrive. If the ticket you are looking for is sold out\, though we can’t guarantee availability of our coaches\, you are welcome to come to the clinic with your item and we will do our best to accomodate you. \nIn order to ensure an effective\, fair\, and fun event\, attendees have a limit of two items for repair per visit. If time permits and if there are Fixit Coaches available to assist in the repair\, attendees can then work to repair additional items. The two item limit ensures that Fixit Clinics remain community events focused on sharing repair knowledge with the greatest number of people. Please only register for 2 arrival times. \nInterested in hosting a Fix-It Clinic? We’ll also have copies of our How to Host a Fix-It Clinic guide available along with staff to answer questions about partnering with us to promote an event. \nWhat to bring: Your broken stuff and a desire to learn how to fix it! Sewing machines and other tools will be available for you to use\, but you can also bring your own machines and tools if you prefer. If you have a replacement part\, missing button\, a fabric patch\, matching thread\, etc. that you suspect might help you fix your item\, please bring it with you. \nInterested in being a volunteer coach?
