SUMMARY:Another Kind of Environmental Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:From the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin –\nPlease join us for a special “We Gather: Another Kind of Worship Service” on Saturday\, March 19 at 4:30 pm in the Sanctuary. \nThe service will focus on faith and environmental stewardship – finding ways to sustain our hope even as we face great challenges. We will alternate between music\, reflections on this theme\, meditation\, stories\, responsive readings and prayer. \nTogether\, we will breathe into that deeper\, more vulnerable place within\, that spark of the divine. Together\, we will reconnect with nature and that which is life giving and life sustaining for us and for our world. \nPlease email childcare@austinuu.org to reserve childcare; however\, children are very welcome throughout the entire service. We will have a carpeted area and coloring materials available. We will enjoy food and fellowship after the service in the gallery\, as well as find out about effective ways we can protect our planet and the many species that share it with us.

SUMMARY:Solar Austin Happy Hour: Austin Energy SHINES
DESCRIPTION:From Solar Austin –\nSolar is booming\, but the share of electricity coming from solar is still very small. As that changes\, it will be important to find ways to integrate larger amounts of solar energy in ways that keep the grid stable. As has already been demonstrated in Hawaii\, it’s important to take these steps early to avoid having solar production curtailed from homes and businesses. To that end\, Austin Energy has been awarded $4.3 million from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Sunshot Initiative. \nThe grant will fund the Austin Energy SHINES (Sustainable and Holistic Integration of Energy Storage and Solar PV) Project\, which will pilot and research solar\, battery storage\, and smart inverter technologies. Included in this project is the much anticipated community solar installation\, battery storage to be co-located with the community solar and battery storage at the Mueller development. \nKarl PophamKarl Popham\, Austin Energy’s Manager of Electric Vehicles & Emerging Technologies\, will join us this month to talk about the Austin Energy SHINES Program. Karl has 23+ years experience in emerging technologies\, leadership\, and consulting. He currently leads Austin Energy’s Emerging Technologies and Electric Vehicle teams to include the award winning Plug-In EVerywhere™ program. Additionally\, he is a Department of Energy Principal Investigator on 3 separate initiatives that involve renewables\, energy storage\, and mobility. He also serves on several research and policy boards relating to energy and innovation. \nPlease RSVP: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/solar-austin-happy-hour-austin-energy-shines-distributed-solar-and-storage-tickets-22664752886

SUMMARY:Green Drinks Happy Hour: Professor Dumpster
DESCRIPTION:From Net Impact Austin –\nCome nurse your SXSW hangover with Professor Dumpster! Jeff Wilson will talk with us about his projects\, The Dumpster Project  and Kasita at Companion (drinks and snacks available from Wright Bros Brew & Brew\, next door) on Tuesday\, March 22nd. Don’t miss it!\nAbout Jeff’s Initiatives\n“The best ideas often spring from unanticipated sources and Kasita is no exception. The concept emerged during Jeff Wilson’s yearlong stint living in a used dumpster\, a social experiment that reduced the definition of “home” to a 33 square foot extreme. \nWhile the dumpster was\, in many ways\, an impractical dwelling\, there were a surprising number of perks: it could move anywhere; rent was low; commutes were short; and the local neighborhood became an intimate living room. \nAs the experiment drew to a close\, Wilson took what he’d learned and returned to the drawing board where Kasita came to life\, a new category of home that married iconic design and pioneering technology with insights gleaned from a trashcan.”\n– kasita.com
