SUMMARY:Bird Walk With Travis Audubon
DESCRIPTION:Join Rachel Zierzow and TTC staff\, Jonatan Salinas\, to find birds and observe their behavior on the new section of the Butler Trail\, the Holly Trailhead\, historically part of the decommissioned Holly Power Plant at Festival Beach. Recently planted native trees\, shrubs\, wildflowers\, and natural spring water dominate the landscape and provide excellent habitats for many different species of birds. As TTC restores this new section of the trail\, we will see a change of birds\, so you’ll want to come on this monthly walk. \nThis bird walk is ideal for beginners\, but all levels are welcome. We have binoculars to lend to anyone that doesn’t have a pair. Our walk will total 1-2 miles in about 3 hours\, making our way through the Holly Trail and adjacent to Lady Bird Lake to listen to and look for resident birds\, migrants\, and flyovers. The terrain is mostly flat (dissolved gravel trail and sidewalks) and there is ADA accessibility at the Holly Trail Overlook.  In winter\, we will stop at the Holly Trail overlook section of the trail a bit to watch the waterfowl. \nRegistration is required and is limited to 10 participants. A reminder email with pertinent details will be sent before the field trip. Register HERE!

SUMMARY:Travis County Community Listening Session: Voter-Approved Child Care & Out-of-School Time Fund
DESCRIPTION:You can help shape the future of childcare and afterschool and summer programs in Travis County! \n\n Learn about the new voter approved childcare fund.\n\n\n Tell us about your experiences with childcare.\n\n\n Share your thoughts about how we can use this fund!\n\nOn November 5\, 2024\, Travis County voters approved a 2.5 cent per $100 valuation tax rate increase. This increase will generate a dedicated revenue fund to expand access to affordable\, high-quality childcare\, afterschool\, and summer programs in the County. \nThe County is undergoing a transitional phase to expand internal resources and infrastructure necessary to administer this new Voter Approved Child Care and Out of School Time fund. In addition\, HHS is organizing opportunities for community input to inform the design and implementation of this fund. Community input is essential to strengthening these systems and ensuring this fund reflects the unique needs of families\, children\, and caregivers in Travis County. \nHHS has three upcoming in-person Community Listening Sessions and one virtual session. These sessions will provide a platform for community members to share their perspectives and experiences about our local childcare and out-of-school time systems. During these sessions\, the County will: \n\nShare updates and tentative timelines;\nShare plans for a future Community Advisory Council; and\nGather community input to shape the fund’s design and future use\n\nFood and Spanish interpretation will be available at each of our in-person Community Listening Sessions listed below. \nWhen:Tuesday\, March 11th from 5:30 – 7:30pm\nWhere: Del Valle – Travis County Community Center – 3518 FM 973; Del Valle\, TX 78617 \nWhen: Saturday\, March 29th from 10:30am – 12:30pm\nWhere: Carver Branch Library – 1161 Angelina Street; Austin\, TX 78702 \nWhen:  Saturday\, April 12th from 10:00am – 12:00pm\nWhere: Manor – Travis County Community Center – 600 W. Carrie Manor St; Austin\, TX 78653 \nRSVP here for one of the in-person community input sessions. \n** RSVP is not necessary for you to attend; it simply allows us to plan to have enough food for everyone attending. \nHHS will also host a virtual Community Listening session for community members that are unable to attend in-person. Spanish interpretation will be offered during this virtual session. \nWhen: Tuesday\, April 8th from 6:00 – 7:30pm\nWhere: Online Virtual Session\nRegister here for the online zoom session \nWe strongly encourage community members to attend and share their thoughts to help ensure the success of this important initiative. \nFor additional information please email ChildcareandOST@traviscountytx.gov.

SUMMARY:City of Austin Career Expo
DESCRIPTION:The City of Austin is hosting its 14th Annual Career Expo on April 2\, 2025. This event is intended to help build a stronger community by providing opportunities for local employers to connect with talent to fill critical vacancies and help job seekers find that perfect job/career opportunity. \nJob Seekers will have opportunities to meet face-to-face with company representatives. This year\, the City launched a new contingent hiring pilot program in January which allows departments to conduct interviews and extend contingent job offers on-site during recruiting events. There are close to 90 different job titles included in the program in areas such as accounting\, customer service\, finance\, human resources\, healthcare\, engineering\, and various operations type jobs.  \nSeveral City departments will be participating in Career Expo and there will be opportunities for job seekers in attendance to be interviewed on the spot during the event and potentially be offered a job. Any offers would be contingent upon passing any required background checks and assessments. \nShowcase presentations by local employers will also be happening throughout the day during the event and will feature tips for job seekers. We encourage job seekers to bring copies of their resume to share with prospective employers and decide in advance which employer booths they would like to visit. \nMore than 100 employers are expected to be in attendance\, including private employers\, state agencies\, higher education\, technical schools\, temporary agencies\, many smaller businesses with skilled labor and customer service job openings\, and City of Austin departments. \nJob seekers can RSVP here.

So grab a blanket\, bring some friends\, and let’s make Wednesdays the best night of the week! \n\n\nGet To Know The Artist – Katrina Cain \n\n\n\n\nBased in Austin\, Texas\, Katrina is a full-time performer\, songwriter\, and studio vocalist working in Austin\, Nashville\, and LA. Katrina Cain’s music has been described as everything from Americana\, to country\, to pop. She is most well known for her standout performances on Season 15 of NBC’s The Voice\, beginning with her haunting arrangement of Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon”. Her audition prompted Adam Levine to declare that she “should have been a four-chair turn” had half the teams not already filled. \nKatrina’s music brings the listener on a journey that breaks the barriers of genre: sweet\, soulful vocals and luscious dreamscapes\, swinging between soul breaking singer-songwriter ballads\, and pop country anthems. In her quietest moments\, Katrina’s pop sensibilities make room for her authentic tales of Americana. Never one to skimp on lyric\, Katrina’s artful storytelling bears more of the human experience than just a heartbreak like the one before.
