SUMMARY:Confluence: The Way Of Water
DESCRIPTION:Join Forlklift as we celebrate the longest river in Texas\, its stewards\, and the communities it sustainsin three distinct but connected performance events\, October 18 – November 8. \nThe series culminates in Confluence\, in a large-scale river-inspired performance\, featuring stories and movement from Austin Water employees\, scientists\, youth river stewards\, fly-fishing enthusiasts\, and birders. Directed by Allison Orr with live music by Graham Reynolds\, poetry by Zell Miller\, III\, and immersive media design by dadaLab. \nThe performance is outdoors and lasts about 75 minutes. FREE but you must reserve TICKETS to attend. \nAbout The Way of Water — Colorado River\nForklift Danceworks is known for its signature approach of using a collaborative\, ethnographic\nprocess that transforms the daily movement of communities into large-scale performances.\nWith The Way of Water— Colorado River\, Artistic Director Allison Orr and her team collaborate\nwith local river experts and Austin community members who interact with the Colorado to\ncreate a dynamic performance series. These site-specific events invite audiences to engage with\nthe river in creative ways and deepen their connection to both the water and its stewards.

SUMMARY:Wild About Plants
DESCRIPTION:Grow Green is a creek-friendly gardening education program. We help protect Austin’s water by encouraging less use of landscape chemicals and keeping rain where it falls — reducing flooding\, erosion\, and pollution\, because what runs off our land flows straight to our creeks and river. We teach people how to select the right plants for their space and manage pests in ways that minimize their impact on both people and wildlife. The Central Texas climate has many extremes\, so plants must be resilient\, or “Texas tough.” Understanding what makes them capable of surviving\, as well as the regional environment and the importance of site-specific conditions\, is essential for making informed plant selection decisions. \nDenise Delaney is Austin Watershed Protection’s Grow Green Program Coordinator. Her professional horticultural roots are 40 years deep in Central Texas. She has coordinated the Grow Green program since 2004. Before that\, she was the first Director of Horticulture at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. She spent a decade working closely with Mrs. Johnson during the construction\, installation\, and establishment of the original gardens and growing operation. Other experience includes working for landscape design\, installation\, and maintenance companies on private estates\, retail nurseries\, and at the University of Texas at Austin.
