SUMMARY:Champagne Cork Dolls
DESCRIPTION:Make adorable little dolls from upcycled champagne corks!\n\n \nAbout this event\nJoin ACR for a morning of reuse imagination! Champagne corks make the perfect doll base – from warrior to bride\, a chef to a sheep you can literally make anything out of these! Fun to make\, these can be given as gifts or used to brighten your own house!\n\n \nKids must be accompanied by a ticketed adult.\n\n \nArtist Bio:\nPreeti Agrawal is a craft blogger and watercolorist. In her work\, she is concerned with experiments that combine old and new. She is drawn to the modern craft sensibility but at the same time the traditional arts call to her. She loves the interplay of the two as she adjusts traditional arts to new mediums and materials.\n\n \nA concern for the environment and a reverence for nature pervades her daily life and her work: she saves fabric\, remnants\, beads and the castaways of modern living and incorporates them in her work. Making things by hand gives her joy\, upcycling\, salvaging and repurposing materials gives her joy\, and as a result her crafting world is the perfect marriage of two!

SUMMARY:Radical Readers Book Club: Things Fall Apart
DESCRIPTION:Things Fall Apart is the debut novel by Nigerian author Chinua Achebe\, first published in 1958. It depicts pre-colonial life in the southeastern part of Nigeria and the arrival of Europeans during the late 19th century. It is seen as the archetypal modern African novel in English\, and one of the first to receive global critical acclaim. It is a staple book in schools throughout Africa and is widely read and studied in English-speaking countries around the world. The novel was first published in the UK in 1962 by William Heinemann Ltd\, and became the first work published in Heinemann’s African Writers Series.\n \nThe novel follows the life of Okonkwo\, an Igbo (“Ibo” in the novel) man and local wrestling champion in the fictional Nigerian clan of Umuofia. The work is split into three parts\, with the first describing his family\, personal history\, and the customs and society of the Igbo\, and the second and third sections introducing the influence of European colonialism and Christian missionaries on Okonkwo\, his family\, and the wider Igbo community.

DESCRIPTION:Join the chicken keeping community!\n\n \nKeeping chickens is a great way to keep your food waste out of the landfill. Chickens can recycle your food scraps. Chicken keeping and composting methods go hand-in-hand to keep food waste out of the landfill while creating healthy soil.\n\n \nThis program offers a way for residents to contribute to Austin’s zero waste goal by eliminating food waste at home. Through the program\, Austinites* can get up to a $75 rebate on either a home composting system and accessories\, or a chicken coop for their home.\n\n \n*City of Austin customers who pay the Clean Community Fee on their utility bills are eligible for the rebate. See the full terms and conditions. austintexas.gov/arrhomerebate\n\n \nGet free tickets here.

SUMMARY:Craft Night: Where Did I Put Those Cool Thingies I Got for My Project!?
DESCRIPTION:For August Craft Night\, we’ll use a show and tell approach to share ideas for the deceptively difficult task of organizing your craft area. Attendees should come ready to share examples of organizing strategies that have worked for them (pictures would be a big bonus) and be prepared to learn some cool new tricks. After sharing tips and ideas\, we’ll take a tour through the bucket section to find items you can use to declutter your own studio.\n\n \nYour ticket price includes a bucket for you to stock up on supplies to help you in your quest to upcycle your way to organizational dominance!\n\n \nThis is an indoor workshop. Masks and social distancing required.\n\n \nAbout Craft Night:\nFalling on the last Thursday of each month\, Craft Night is a long held tradition led by two of ACR’s dedicated core volunteers. Craft Night is not only an opportunity to celebrate the pure joy of making things\, but is also an excellent chance to explore the rich offerings of ACR’s wonderful bucket section. Your admission fee of $5 will entitle you to fill a bucket with items from our bucket section that can be used for that evening’s project (along with whatever else happens to tickle your fancy)! Pack it to the brim if you’d like to get every bit of your $5 worth! Your instructors will organize a project for each class and after walking you through the framework\, will turn you loose to gather items for your project so you can commence to crafting. We’ll provide tools and any specialty items you might need to complete the project.\n\n \nCraft night is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult and each person is required to purchase a ticket.

SUMMARY:Crepe Paper Flowers
DESCRIPTION:Who doesn’t love some brightly colored flowers!? Make your own eternal spring wildflowers in this workshop out of crepe paper. While no one can match the beauty of nature\, these come pretty close and last a long while. You can use these to jazz up your home decor or give as gifts.\n\n \nWe’ll learn how to make at least two types of flowers\, more if time permits!\n\n \nArtist Bio:\nI am Preeti Agrawal\, a craft blogger and watercolorist. In my work\, I am concerned with experiments that combine old and new. I am drawn to the modern craft sensibility but at the same time the traditional arts call to me. I love the interplay of the two as I adjust traditional arts to new mediums and materials.\n\n \nA concern for the environment and a reverence for nature pervades my daily life and my work: I save fabric\, remnants\, beads and the castaways of modern living and incorporate them in my work. Making things by hand gives me joy\, up cycling\, salvaging and repurposing materials gives me joy\, as a result my crafting world is the perfect marriage of two!

SUMMARY:Girl Scout Collage Badge
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, participants will learn about the history of collage and collage artists. They will then make at least four collage pieces\, including one 3-D collage and one advocacy postcard that will be flown on a rocket to space (with Blue Planet) and then returned to an address of the girl’s choice.\n\n \nNot a Girl Scout? Not a girl? No problem! While this workshop allows the participants to fulfill the requirements of the Girl Scouts collage badge\, anyone between the ages of 12-17 is encouraged to attend!\n\n \nThis is an indoor workshop\, masks are required.\n\n \nAbout the Artist:\nKaren Miller is an engineer and artist who works primarily with reuse materials in collage\, assemblage and mosaic. She is also a long-time scout leader. Combining her love of working with scouts and reuse materials\, Karen has developed several arts and crafts workshops for young people that focus on safely learning how to use specific tools while reusing cool materials to create masterpieces.
