DESCRIPTION:Join us July 15th for our July general meeting at the Mosaic Workshop to socialize with like-minded Austin neighbors and hear a talk about energy issues in Texas from Shane Johnson of the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter. \nDoors open at 6:30 for light snacks and conversation. Club updates and program starts at 7pm. We hope you’ll join us.\nMany Sierrans and environmental allies are motivated to help stop or slow climate change. For the past several years\, in order to help broaden the base of everyday Texans who are engaged in that critical climate justice work\, the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter has prioritized campaigns that address energy burden\, energy poverty\, and economic justice; all issues exacerbated by the rapidly warming climate. \nTexans are struggling with skyrocketing energy bills\, on top of rising cost of living\, thanks largely to the data center boom and how Gov. Abbott and many state leaders allow energy companies to keep raising our bills to make more profit off of our backs. We are all tired of Texans having to choose between groceries\, medicine\, clothing for their kids\, and a safe thermostat setting. But we need your help to make a difference. \nTo help regular Texans\, we need enough everyday people coming together to have the influence to combat these powerful companies and the ultra-wealthy who own many (but not all ) Texas lawmakers. Join us on Wed\, July 15th to learn what major decisions on energy issues are coming up at state agencies and the legislature\, like whether the people or corporations pay for majorly expensive new transmission infrastructure\, and what you can do about it. \nFor the General Meeting please RSVP HERE for in-person attendance! \nWhere: The Mosaic Workshop\, 729 Airport Blvd\, Austin\, TX 78702. Parking map here. Park in the Mosaic Workshop spots or those at the City Union building. (Please avoid spots designated for Broad Studios Club House). \nWhen: Wednesday July 15. Arrive at 6:30pm for light snacks and conversation. Program starts at 7pm.

SUMMARY:I Am Parks and Recreation Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:“I Am Parks and Recreation” is a special photo exhibit celebrating the people who make Austin’s parks\, programs\, and public spaces thrive. Through on‑location portraits and personal reflections\, the exhibit offers an intimate look at the everyday work\, dedication\, and care that often goes unseen but is felt throughout the community. \nPro‑bono photographer Monica Liang‑Aguirre captures portraits and personal quotes from 14 Austin Parks and Recreation employees. Representing roles across aquatics\, forestry\, golf\, maintenance\, natural resources\, community recreation\, senior programs\, and therapeutic recreation\, these individuals offer a rare look at the expertise and dedication at Austin Parks and Recreation. \nVisitors will discover the stories behind the people who maintain trails and historic buildings\, lead youth and senior programs\, protect natural spaces\, keep facilities safe\, teach new skills\, and create inclusive environments where all Austinites can belong. Together\, these portraits highlight the human side of Parks and Recreation—one built on stewardship\, connection\, and a shared belief that parks are truly for everyone. \n“I Am Parks and Recreation” is free and open to the public in the City Hall Atrium\, July 13–24\, Monday–Friday\, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

SUMMARY:Just Transition Workshop: What Should The Future Look Like?
DESCRIPTION:Are you a person of color between the ages of 15-30? \nJoin youth leaders\, organizers\, artists\, educators\, and community members for a participatory workshop exploring the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of Austin. Together\, we’ll share stories\, map local environmental and social issues\, imagine community-led solutions\, and help build a youth vision for a Just Transition in Central Texas and the Gulf South. \nAustin is changing rapidly. Rising housing costs\, displacement\, extreme heat\, flooding\, environmental pollution\, transportation barriers\, food insecurity\, and unequal access to resources continue to impact many communities\, especially Black\, Brown\, Indigenous\, immigrant\, and working-class neighborhoods. At the same time\, communities across Austin are organizing\, creating solutions\, and building alternatives rooted in care\, resilience\, and justice. \nWhether you’re concerned about climate change\, housing\, public health\, environmental justice\, cultural preservation\, transportation\, education\, or the future of your neighborhood\, your voice and lived experience matter. \nRSVP here.
