SUMMARY:Restoring Endangered Species Habitat on the JJ&T tract
DESCRIPTION:Please note the location change from the regularly scheduled Sunday workday at Vireo. We will be hosting these JJ&T workdays on the first Sunday of the month through September. \nJoin us to restore forest habitat on the JJ&T tract of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve (BCP)\, which is home to rare and endangered plants and animals. Tasks vary and\, depending on the workday and season\, may include tree planting and care\, seeding\, watering\, mulching\, and building soil. \nThe road into the worksite is rough and unpaved\, so drive carefully. This workday will involve walking over uneven surfaces\, using digging tools\, and moving material with wheelbarrows. Many of the work areas are in full sun\, so bring sun protection. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring drinking water and work gloves\, if you have a pair (we’ll have extras). \nDue to the tasks\, nature of the terrain\, and lack of amenities\, these workdays are generally best suited to older youth and adults. There is no running water on site\, and pets and smoking are not permitted. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian. \nYou can register to volunteer here. \nLocated in Lakeway near FM 620 and Lakeway Blvd: bit.ly/JJandT. Learn more about the BCP at austintexas.gov/BCPstory.
