SUMMARY:Sierra Club Program ONLINE: Plastic Reduction Project
DESCRIPTION:Our monthly Austin Sierra Club meeting will be online via Zoom.\n \nWe’ll start off with Announcements on current events… Tonite’s main program is the Plastic Reduction Project\, with Sean Winn.\n \nThis presentation will focus on a project to get restaurants to shift away from single-use items … including citizen-scientists to help crowd source data and become Consultants to assist restaurants in profitably going green.\n \nSean Winn is Co-Founder of the PlasticReductionProject.org\, an Austin-area 501(c)3 nonprofit seeking to reduce plastic waste in its many forms. His organization is working in conjunction with the Plastics Action Team of our local chapter’s Climate Change Committee.\n \nSean spent most of his career in Asia in the finance industry with Citibank and Standard Chartered Bank. He held a variety of roles\, but his longest stretch was as COO of a distressed investments private equity fund. Sean grew up in Franklin\, Texas\, a rural town of about 1\,000 people roughly two hours NE of Austin. “My parents still live there; there is no recycling service anywhere in the county. At some point I would like to get a project running to bring a recycling drop-off service to these sorts of recycling deserts.”\n \nSean graduated from UT with a degree in Finance in 1993\, and after retiring from his finance career returned to UT\, earning a degree in History in 2018. Before the Plastic Reduction Project took over his life\, Sean began writing and published several poems\, short stories and essays in a number of literary magazines during the Pandemic. He is also an avid tennis player.\n \nOn a side note\, Sean is looking for volunteers who would be willing to collaborate with him to create a sharp\, concise video about recycling in Austin\, what is and is not recycled\, and specifics to answer all of our questions about recycling so that it can be shared widely with our community. Interested and skilled? Contact Sean@PlasticReductionProject.org.
