SUMMARY:Naturalists at the Ney: Saving Water in Urban Landscapes
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the third Naturalists at the Ney series with a discussion about water conservation. \n\n\n\n\nCory Ames\, a Texas-based storyteller and educator exploring how cities and landscapes function together\, looks at how urban homes and neighborhoods can better capture\, slow\, and reuse rainwater—right where it falls. Drawing from hands-on projects across Central Texas\, this talk covers practical approaches to harvesting roof\, yard\, driveway\, and street runoff to reduce flooding\, support healthier landscapes\, and build long-term water resilience. Attendees will leave with simple\, actionable ways to see stormwater as an asset and work with their site’s natural flow instead of against it. \nGet your free ticket here.

SUMMARY:The Carver Kickback: Artist Talk with Hakeem Adewumi
DESCRIPTION:Join artist Hakeem Adewumi and Rachel Winston\, Black Diaspora Archivist at the University of Texas at Austin\, for an intimate conversation about Seeing Further — a mixed-media exhibition exploring Juneteenth as a living Black Southern tradition rooted in Texas mythology\, African spirituality\, and the supernatural. Hakeem shares the personal history\, family objects\, and landscape that shaped the work\, and what it means to make art that listens to ancestors. \n\n\nTogether\, Hakeem and Rachel will sit with a question at the heart of the show: what happens to a regional ethos of liberation when the world claims it as its own? Come prepared for an honest\, grounded conversation about memory\, place\, and what it means for all of us to see further into Juneteenth. \nRSVP here.
