DESCRIPTION:The City of Austin needs your support to help prevent displacement. Community feedback will help guide funding priorities for the next three years.\n\n \nIn 2020\, Austin voters approved Project Connect. Our local public transit system will expand to connect more parts of our city than ever before. Investments of this size can bring great benefits. They can also potentially impact displacement as property values in nearby neighborhoods rise. To address this\, voters also approved $300 million dedicated to anti-displacement.\n\n \nAs our city continues to grow and develop\, we must do a better job to keep communities in place\, while providing much-needed infrastructural improvements and transit services. To do this we must center the ideas of our residents to address displacement.\n\n \n$75 million will be invested over the next three years. The Project Connect Community Advisory Committee (CAC) has identified 5 goals for these three years of anti-displacement funding. The goals build on the work of the Project Connect Racial Equity Catalysts and the Nothing About Us Without Us report.\n\n \nJoin the Community Advisory Committee for a conversation to share your ideas about how $75 million should be invested toward anti-displacement efforts. You can RSVP here.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on November 1 & 2 as we celebrate Día de los Muertos at Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park!\n \nOur free two-day celebration includes community altars\, cultural activations\, live music\, dance performances\, and more!\n \nCommunity Altars\nDía de los Muertos will transform the Moody Amphitheater stage into a community “ofrenda\,” or altar\, where visitors are invited to place images and decorations that honor their families and friends who have passed. The Moody Amphitheater ofrenda will be designed by local Tejana florist Yliana Lara\, an artist and community activist. Guests can remember beloved departed pets at a special Alebrijes Altar\, supported by Tito’s Handmade Vodka and designed by local artist\, Ernest Ramirez.\n \nLive Music & Dance Performances\nDuring both days\, attendees can enjoy free live music and dance performances from Mariachi Corazon de Tejas\, Ballet Folklorico MariCruz\, Danza Azteca Guadalupana de Austin\, DJ Pos Guau\, and DJ Abe the Assassin\, presented by Lalo Tequila.\n \nFamily-Friendly Activities\nBring the whole family to enjoy children’s hands-on activities\, including Calavera Face Painting presented by Dell Children’s Medical Center. Additional onsite community partners will include Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center\, Avance\, Con Mi Madre\, Todos Juntos\, Latinitas\, and MAS Cultura.\n \nVisitors can also enjoy live artists Carmen Rangel and Ruben Esquivel featured throughout the event.\n \nFood and Artisan Vendors\nSupport local businesses by visiting Latinx craft artisan booths and food vendors. Guests can also visit the Dos Equis Beer Garden to enjoy themed cocktails and snacks\, as well as non-alcoholic beverages.\n \nAbout Día de los Muertos\nDía de los Muertos\, or Day of the Dead\, long observed in Mexico\, is a holiday now embraced globally. Each culture infuses their own unique influences into two days of vibrant festivities that honor the dead. Gather with us as we celebrate both the centuries-old and modern traditions shared from around the world.

DESCRIPTION:This beloved tradition brings family and community together to celebrate the lives of our ancestors\, family and friends\, veterans\, and public figures. There will be a multi-day celebration that all culminates in a gran fiesta on Saturday\, November 5th.\n \nOn Saturday November 5th from 4-10pm\, the MACC will present our 15th annual festival on the Zocalo plaza. Doors will open to the public at 4:00pm. There will be free shuttle bus service from 4:30pm-10:30pm at Sanchez Elementary.\n \nFeaturing\, for the first time\, MexAmeriCon\, Austin’s first Latinx Comic Book Convention (Comic Con)\, local Womxn of Color-centered marketplace Frida Friday ATX\, an Interactive Shadow Puppet Show by the Austin Public Library\, AND SO MUCH MORE!
