SUMMARY:Ready\, Set\, Plant! at Onion Creek Greenbelt
DESCRIPTION:Ready\, Set\, Plant! is a volunteer tree-planting program that plants 10\,000 trees each year along Austin’s creeks and rivers. We educate volunteers on proper tree planting techniques and riparian restoration in partnership with the City of Austin’s Watershed Protection Department and Keep Austin Beautiful. Some of the benefits of creekside planting include cooler water for aquatic life\, erosion control\, and filtering of pollutants from storm water. Our events are family friendly and provide an opportunity for community members to connect with Austin’s public lands. \nNo experience or tools are needed. We will train everyone at the beginning of the event\, and provide all tools\, materials\, gloves\, water\, and snacks. \nRSVP here.

SUMMARY:Bird Walk with Travis Audubon
DESCRIPTION:Join Rachel Zierzow and TTC staff\, Jonatan Salinas\, to find birds and observe their behavior on the new section of the Butler Trail\, the Holly Trailhead\, historically part of the decommissioned Holly Power Plant at Festival Beach. Recently planted native trees\, shrubs\, wildflowers\, and natural spring water dominate the landscape and provide excellent habitats for many different species of birds. As TTC restores this new section of the trail\, we will see a change of birds\, so you’ll want to come on this monthly walk. \nThis bird walk is ideal for beginners\, but all levels are welcome. We have binoculars to lend to anyone that doesn’t have a pair. Our walk will total 1-2 miles in about 3 hours\, making our way through the Holly Trail and adjacent to Lady Bird Lake to listen to and look for resident birds\, migrants\, and flyovers. The terrain is mostly flat (dissolved gravel trail and sidewalks) and there is ADA accessibility at the Holly Trail Overlook.  In winter\, we will stop at the Holly Trail overlook section of the trail a bit to watch the waterfowl. \nRegistration is required and is limited to 10 participants. A reminder email with pertinent details will be sent before the field trip. Register HERE!

SUMMARY:Fix-It Austin Toy Hospital
DESCRIPTION:This holiday season\, bring your broken or damaged toys to Fix-It Austin’s Toy Hospital! Our skilled volunteers will guide you through repairing your cherished toys\, from teddy bears with torn seams to non-functioning remote-controlled cars. Our bike repair coaches can even help you assemble or repair a child’s bike just in time for the holidays. \n\nTo ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to work with our volunteer coaches\, attendees are kindly asked to bring no more than two items to the toy hospital.\nWhile we can’t guarantee your toy will be fixed\, coaches will guide you through how the item works and what you may need for repair.\nAttendees are expected to actively participate and stay with their items during the repair process.\n\nYou can get your free ticket here.
