SUMMARY:Ready\, Set\, Plant! at Oak Springs Detention Pond
DESCRIPTION:Ready\, Set\, Plant! is a volunteer tree-planting program that plants 10\,000 trees each year along Austin’s creeks and rivers. Some benefits of creekside planting include cooler water for aquatic life\, erosion control\, and filtering pollutants from stormwater. Our events are family-friendly and provide an opportunity for community members to connect with Austin’s public lands. \nNo experience or tools are needed. We will train everyone at the beginning of the event\, and provide all tools\, materials\, gloves\, water\, and snacks. RSVP to volunteer here.

SUMMARY:Great Hills Park Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join the District 10 team and Friends of Great Hills Park on December 6! We’ll be spending another morning at the park to remove remaining “dead and down” brush and reduce fire risk. \nIn May\, I pitched in with an amazing group of neighborhood volunteers to cut and haul out almost 3\,000 pounds of brush inside the park\, but wildfire is an ever-present threat and there’s more to be done. Workdays like these keep the area and its residents safe and help save taxpayer funds. Hope to see you there! \nYou can RSVP to volunteer here.

SUMMARY:Postponed: Onion Creek Metro Park Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:*POSTPONED* Community Creek Cleanup \nDue to predicted freezing temperatures on Saturday\, we’ve decided to postpone this Community Creek Cleanup.  \nKeep an eye out for the future cleanup date! \n———————————— \nJoin CRA for quarterly creek cleanups in Onion Creek Metropolitan Park! We need volunteers of all ages to help remove trash from in and around Onion Creek—an area with significant impact on the Texas Colorado River and our drinking water. \nReserve your spot now to help keep our local freshwater sources healthy and clean for generations to come! \nWhat to Bring: We will provide the tools needed to complete the cleanup\, such as grabbers and trash bags. Please bring a full water bottle\, sun protection\, and any snacks you may like to have on hand. \nWhat to wear: Weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toed shoes are recommended. Long pants\, long socks\, and long-sleeve shirts can protect against poison ivy\, bug bites\, and other common irritants. There are several burs in Onion Creek so we do not recommend wearing pants that have intentional holes\, fringe\, or are made from a soft material such as jogging pants and leggings.

SUMMARY:January Fix-It Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Fix-It Clinics are free events that help shift our throw-away culture toward repair and reuse. Instead of tossing broken items\, participants bring them to the clinic to work alongside volunteer Fix-It Coaches who share their repair knowledge and help troubleshoot\, disassemble\, and (when possible) fix each item. By repairing what we already have\, we reduce the need for new materials and energy and keep useful items out of landfills.
