DESCRIPTION:Ready\, Set\, Plant! is a volunteer tree-planting program that plants 10\,000 trees each year along Austin’s creeks and rivers. We will train everyone at the beginning of the event\, and provide all tools\, materials\, gloves\, water\, and snacks. \nRSVP to volunteer here.

SUMMARY:Postponed: Onion Creek Metro Park Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:*POSTPONED* Community Creek Cleanup \nDue to predicted freezing temperatures on Saturday\, we’ve decided to postpone this Community Creek Cleanup.  \nKeep an eye out for the future cleanup date! \n———————————— \nJoin CRA for quarterly creek cleanups in Onion Creek Metropolitan Park! We need volunteers of all ages to help remove trash from in and around Onion Creek—an area with significant impact on the Texas Colorado River and our drinking water. \nReserve your spot now to help keep our local freshwater sources healthy and clean for generations to come! \nWhat to Bring: We will provide the tools needed to complete the cleanup\, such as grabbers and trash bags. Please bring a full water bottle\, sun protection\, and any snacks you may like to have on hand. \nWhat to wear: Weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toed shoes are recommended. Long pants\, long socks\, and long-sleeve shirts can protect against poison ivy\, bug bites\, and other common irritants. There are several burs in Onion Creek so we do not recommend wearing pants that have intentional holes\, fringe\, or are made from a soft material such as jogging pants and leggings.

SUMMARY:January Fix-It Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Fix-It Clinics are free events that help shift our throw-away culture toward repair and reuse. Instead of tossing broken items\, participants bring them to the clinic to work alongside volunteer Fix-It Coaches who share their repair knowledge and help troubleshoot\, disassemble\, and (when possible) fix each item. By repairing what we already have\, we reduce the need for new materials and energy and keep useful items out of landfills.

Volunteers will have the option to launch from one of three locations: Rowing Dock (West end)\, Epic SUP (East end)\, and on the trail at Auditorium Shores. From there\, you’ll select whether you would like to pick up trash by boat or by walking trails along the river. This event is free for all community volunteers\, with advance registration required. \nThere is a small participation fee of $15/person required for corporate teams. All funds raised from this event will go to The Trail Conservancy\, the local nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting\, enhancing\, and connecting the Ann & Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail for the benefit of all. More info on participation fee. \nSign up for a volunteer time slot here.

Each July\, a significant volume of reusable items are abandoned on the curb or near dumpsters when students move out. Established in 2018\, MoveOutATX brings temporary donation stations to the area. The 2026 program runs July 25-31. Students and residents can donate gently used items like clothing\, furniture\, housewares\, open or new cleaning supplies/toiletries\, art/office supplies\, unopened nonperishable food\, and more. MoveOutATX is a partner program between the City of Austin\, UT Office of Sustainability\, UT Office of the Dean of Students\, local reuse organizations\, and local properties. For more information\, visit austintexas.gov/moveout. \nThe Free Furniture Market is a public event where gently used furniture collected through MoveOutATX is available for free. A local reuse organization transports and restocks items throughout the event. This year’s market will only operate on two days during the donation event. Furniture donated through donation stations on other days will be taken to the City’s new Austin Reuse Warehouse. Once the warehouse opens\, these items will help furnish the homes of people transitioning out of homelessness.
